2006 NO album

What do you think the style of the yet untitled new album being released in 2006 should be like - personally i think they should make it more for NO fans and not try to appeal to a new younger pop audience as well, like i think WFTSC is....

I think they need to start doing drugs again to bring out the darker side like from the early days.

Also as some people have said i agree that they need another song with a one word title ending in ion.

I think there are maybe 2 or 3 songs specially made to get the new peeps into the band though it's very hard for me to imagine those people buying the cd, more like they would pick up the single only and that's about it. Fat chance that someone will get into NO just because they heard, say Jetstream on the radio or telly. And as for the 2006 album, it would probably sound pretty much the same like the Sirens. You can't expect the band that's been around for 25 years to drasticlly change the music, can you? I'm just so pleased that they're still doing it the best way they can.

I'd imagine its more or less in the same vein as the one just out. They were recorded at the same time in the same studio so its unlikely that there'll be any big changes. Just more Turns and less Jetstreams will do me.

When they say they have 7 songs "nailed" for the next album do they mean these songs have actually been recorded and mixed?.Or do they mean they are written but have yet to be recorded?.

They must find it hard that if the songs are completed or whatever they have to resist the urge to play them live until the album`s release campaign/tour

I heard that they scrapped several songs because they sound too much like The Killers.

Yeah in an NME interview with The Killers back in 2004 they claimed New Order indeed had scrapped a few songs because they sounded like Mr.Brightside and Jenny Was A Friend Of Mine.

For a lot of their career, they've been blending guitar sounds and synth sounds. I like it when they do that. I personally hate heavy metal music and most rock music anyways, (although the guitar driven New Order tracks don't bother me much, maybe it's Bernard's voice.) so I don't want them to act all "we're alternative rock!!!" or anything like that. I dislike rock music in general, but I love synthpop or anything influenced by synthpop. However, I still can't wait for their 2006 album.

I agree with the idea of bringing back they dark side. I mean Get Ready seemed like such a good thing! And then wftsc comes out, I was a bit disappointed personally. I hope they try to bring back that edge they had (it was on get ready!). Besides Movement had great synth, and PCL to me is the definition of "the perfect amount of synth". Although Low Life is not going to well with me, I love Sun Rise and Perfect Kiss. the thing I miss about the technique & Republic era is the complexity the music seemed to have. So in my dreams, the new album would contain the darkness, the complexity, the balance, the edge, and the mood. wftsc seems to be missing darkness, edge, and complexity. I also can't say much for its mood. One last bit, when bernard rules NO we get Jetstream. I bet Hooky would give us what we want! Rock!

I think the darkness really lies in hooky...

I think Low-life was the last album that still had a dominant dark edge to it.

we do see them transforming on this album into the synth pop that they became known for in the 80's but there was always a darkness there until republic.

hooky needs tracks that display his bass more and i also think they need the old drum set back...i liked the tinny sound that steve used to have when playing...you can hear all this slightly on the title track WFTSC. This is the closest thing to a throwback NO track and I think it's the best one in a long time.

I also think we need Gillian back...she had a dark sense on the synths...listen to PCL and low-life.

Overall I don't expect them to change for me or us...If they did that they wouldnt be NO doing it their way but I think for us loyal fans it would be kool to get those moods back.

I hate to say it but i think they're too happy and might need some tragedy...I won't go there though.

New Order's new album won't sound predominantly dark if the songs will be produced by Brian Higgins and Tore Johansson as has been mentioned. Or do you peeps think Girls Aloud is a goth band perhaps?

And what's this about New Order being dark until Republic? Surely Republic is one of their darker albums, it was written when they thought everything they knew was falling apart and that's what they told all about throughout the album.

For the next one, I hope they go the way of cheerful dance music. Bring the beat back!

Well they've been to the very dark Movement to the very "jingle" Republic (little bit disturbing at the time with the "sound", not about songs) and now we're back to something more equilibrate… As far as I know, they don't use to play unrealised material for there gigs… but I suppose that if they'd really planned to "change" their sound, we should have hear it from the last "tour" ?

I think we can expect to dance (happy side) on their music about story from a guy witch have been left/deceived (dark side) and who drink far to much (and all), but love travelling and enjoy partying, still claims he doesn't care about politic (but do) and don't like the intellectual stuff (but read books and listen to classical music)… all along with guitar/bass and strong drum sound ("let's play loud, people won't hear about what Barney is singing"… HEY, I'M ONLY JOKING !!!)

In a sens, this is what N.O is made from : paradox (guitar and bass + synth), there is more than one person involved in the band and everybody seems satisfied at the moment, that's the more important

What's wrong with PSB music? I don't think their sexuality has much to do with it, don't know why there is so much anti-gay sentiment around NOOL land, but its sad.

Anyway, I hope 'Waiting for the Siren's Left Overs' is going to be a darker, harder affair, with a couple of synthy Guilt type songs; but we all know it will be the same as WFTSC- A hotch potch of very good songs, but nothing that earth-shattering.

Technique may not seem like a great album now, but it hit the mood right on at the time. this was when the whole dance/acid explosion was hitting the uk and this blend of dance and rock was brilliant and i think still is - reminds me of my youth! thats the thing with NO to me they've always been quite cutting edge and i dont think WFTSC was, and that dissapointed me...

What's all this "dark" shite? It's always been a mixture of uplifting melodies with lyrics that can be taken however you want them. Even Movement isn't exactly all doom and gloom.

They do poppy stuff; Waiting for The Sirens Call, Guilt is a Useless Emotion, Here to Stay and darker stuff; Crystal, Video 586, Behind Closed Doors and a lot of stuff in between; Confusion, 60 MPH etc...

When I'm talking about dark I'm talking about the sound found ins songs like LEAVE ME ALONE, Elegia and CEREMONY even the original TEMPTATION 7" is rather dark.

I enjoy the happy stuff too but it seems to be the dominant force on the latest stuff. There's nothing dark about the last 2 albums. The closest would be WFTSC which you can sense it a little bit.

Other than that it's all very upbeat and pop-like. Don't they get depressed anymore??

I'm not saying they have to be miserable but I would just like to see something more of a darker emotion expressed in the music aside from the lyrics.

Part of the reason I love NO is because they didn't sound overly synthed like PSB and DM. The synths complimented Hooky's bass style but didnt overshadow it.

The Pet Shop Boys were a great band and The Killers are a great band. Why do people feel the need to knock other bands all the time? New Order arent the only band on the planet.It would be boring if they were.

Maybe NO is taking the wrong drugs...possibly VIAGRA so they're getting laid alot and they're too happy...thus the happy poppy music.

In that case, they should refrain from coke. Its bad for booty calls.

at the end of the day i'm sure NO would really love to put out a groundbreaking earth-shattering new album and i'm sure they could if they really tried (and got depressed/took loads of drugs/got pissed/hated everyone etc) but:- A) there happy people now B) they've got a record company who want them to be poptastic(not like factory...) such is life...

I think they should do something more like Joy division or Revenge, carry on what they started.
