Songs NO need to play live at least once

With New Order starting the 3rd leg of their tour. I'm really hopping they will suprise us with at least one new song they havn't played live before or at least in a long time. I think we all know New Order are going to play the same songs they played at every other concert so far. But here is a list song songs I think they need to play live at least once.

1. Spooky :As far as I know this is the only single they have never played live before. Don't shoot me if I'm wrong. So they need to play it!

2. Lier :With New Order having a back up singer, I think it would be great to play this. I think it would sound great live.

3. Young Offender :One of the best songs from Republic.

4. Round & round :I know they played this live lots of times before, but I think it's one of the best songs they have, so lets dump TBTHOG but put this on the set.

5. Love Less :A great song from a great CD.

6. Broken Promise :They have played this years ago, but I never herd it live.

7. Someone like you :I would be nice to hear Gillian sing live.

8. Primitive Notion :It's better then Slow Jam.

Does anybody have any ideas?

I'd enjoy all of those with the exception of Young Offender. I like it on the disc but I can't imagine it being good live. Primitive Notion definitely needs a chance to shine. I'd like to add Sunrise, PK (of course), Leave Me Alone and Everythings Gone Green.

• Let's Go (Nothing for me) - 'cos it really fits into the GetReady sound.

• Dream Attack - one of my all-time favourites.

• Round & Round - would work better than TBTHOG

• Love Vigilantes - they already played it in the early 2001 shows, so why not again, it worked pretty well methinks.

• Special - Reading 93' performance wasn't too brave, but needs another chance.

• Guilty Partner - 'cos , unfortunately, i haven't heard the live-versions from 98', and i'd like to know how this one works live...

There's some interesting song choices here. Rather than just say "no, they won't do these so forget it", I will try to come up with excuses for them !

Broken Promise was played quite a bit late 85 through to the end of 86, then got relegated quite a long way down the pecking order. A pity, as it was a far better song live than on record IMHO. Wasn't that difficult to play, if that is one of their criteria for song selection these days !

Guilty Partner just didn't happen live. They played it twice in 98 and it sounded like a fish out of water, which was a real shame as it's a quality track on the record.

Round and Round won't happen, as it's another victim of technological advancements. The floppies they used to store it on, same as Perfect Kiss, are now outmoded and have been replaced by more sophisticated technology. A real pity.

Let's Go would be a cracking track to play (would HAVE to be the instrumental though !). Easy to play, no tricky sequencing. Not played since 1987 though so they have probably forgotten it !

Dream Attack is fully sequenced, so we won't get that one again I doubt. Again a pity.

Special....... :\puke: Sorry, but I'm glad they screwed it up when they did play it, and that it put them off !

Love Less - no reason why they shouldn't play this, except that they would maybe need to rehearse a bit first !

Love Vigilantes - as we now know, this one has been dusted off again for the Big Day Out set. Good :)

Dream Attack...fully sequenced? Come again - it doesn't sound like it on Technique anyway. Are you sure about that one SG?

If neworder songs warrant 2 guitarists, then certainly one full time synth (ideally two synth players) should be present. They really should be able to play Dream Attack.

Yep, the keyboards are all sequenced. Gillian played guitar on it live.

Ten songs NO should do live:

1. In A Lonely Place - I have a live recording and it was amazing.

2. Special - Sorry, I honestly think it has potential.

3. Brutal - I don't much care for the song myself, but it's never been done live before.

4. Times Change - Interesting. What would they DO on stage..?

5. Subculture - We need more older stuff played live.

6. State Of The Nation - I actually love this song.

7. Spooky - Just wanna hear it live.

8. Shellshock - Of course, they would have to remix it and add a bunch of new sounds to fill the gaps. But it's due for a GOOD remix, isn't it?

9. World (The Price Of Dub) - Have you heard this version? Almost sounds evil, they should definatly consider.

10. Everything's Gone Green - Has this even been done live since the 80's?

You probably disagree with all of these, but you have to admit, they would shock the crowd.

IALP would be good to hear again, I will agree. Subculture and State of the Nation will both need reprogramming (estimated time 2157 by the time they get their arses in gear). Shellshock used to be bloody good live because there was nothing to screw up but the vocals ! EGG sort of died a death in 87, which is a real pity. Now that would be a treat, as would 586. Those are dreams that have ended though !

I'd like to hear Confusion live. The Substance version is crap, but the original 12" version rules. I like the way thay play it in PFD, with Barney playing the bass.

Yeah, I want to hear more 'electronic' (kind of) songs live!

Barney always played bass on it live, same as he did on Sound of Music back in the good old days before there was even a need to write stuff like Confusion ! It's possible that it may rear it's ugly head again, as it was played in 98.

well, the 98' live versions (Reading, Apollo) of Confusion DO suck !!!

That's probably the reason they didn't keep it on the DVD. I mean, the fact that the live version sucked. Not the fact that you don't like that song :D

Having said that, they didn't really sound any different to any of the other live versions of Confusion.

I didn't realize they tried to play Special at Reading '93. It's not on the couple of recordings I have of this gig. Is it available in collectorland?

There's a Real Audio version of Special live on the multimedia section of this site, isn't there ? Failing that I'm sure it's on Audiogalaxy.

...to me "Too Late" is the best song of the second peel sessions. "586" is a bit too weird on this one...

There must be something in the air that makes us all play Peel sessions today! I aksed this question last friday on another thread(forgot which one), so i'll ask again: I have got an album(o really, lucky you) called Radio Signals Coming Through. Is it the same as the Peel sessions one? The playlist is the same , they are only in a slightly different order. I must admit I find it hard to believe that 're-programming' songs can be that difficult, is it? I'm not a technophobe so I wouldn't know but if they can't be arsed why don't they pay someone to do it.

Apparently, they've paid Roger Lyons (of lionrock fame) to handle their programming. I thought technology would make it easier too but it seems like the one of the first bands to fully embrace technology are now old geezers who can't fix the blinking clock on their VCR's. How hard can it be to play the synth lines in Perfect Kiss? I've seen the chord break down on these pages. Come on guys, if you want a pension, you've got to work for it!!!
