Sorry to bring this up but i've definitely decided that New Order need Gillian back in the band. Phil just isn't happening. Maybe when her kids are old enough she may be able to participate.

Any thoughts?

Phill-in's really grown on me, especially as his musical ability has degenerated and he's learned to piss interviewers off.

but it cannot be denied that I would dearly love to see the lovely gills and her performing sand[1] again.

[1]that's how I shut folkies up when they whine about their bloody lute being "real" and my machines being unnatural and evil....."I make music with sand, rocks and animal bones, how much more fucking natural can you get" (sand for chips, rocks for casing metals and animal bones for plastic)

I miss her too; seems particularly unfair when she doesn't step up to the podium with the rest of the band when the awards are being shelled out. NO benefitted from the addition of a female head in my opinion.

...but (dons flak jacket) maybe Dawn Zee could be adopted...

Apart from standing there getting notes wrong and looking quite hot from time to time during the good old days, i completely fail to see what Gillian brings to the party. At least phil is competent at playing his instrument...

Yes,

There is a unique synergy with a female member in the mix. Phil is a very loose and remarkable player but his comments in the latest guitar player trouble me! -don't speak for others -shut up and show some respect.

B is very ,very, modest in that interview-he is a shit hot player-as is gillian.I love female players on guitar they can show the guys a thing or 2 in terms of ego and playing in a musical way.

The line up for me is S.G.P.B!

I've really got used to Phil following the tour, I think he is totally suitable in my humble opinion. Thank God he is a Northerner!

Do miss Gillian though, her outfits and shyness - and it was good to have a bird in the band.

What a nice welcome...

Still, it is a bit of a mouthful...

I think there's pros and cons. I like the fact it seems more of a 'band' with guitars and stuff but I miss the skill by which Gilliam graced the keyboards. What about having 5 in the group?

They need to bring her back so they can cut down on the use of tapes. Keep Phil so they can have a competent guitar player. Add Dawn Zee so they do not need taped backing vocals.

sensible stuff Chris. Plus consider that they need to add a few bum notes into the proceedings, they are far too competent at present.

what comments does Phil make, you say that he speaks for the others - is he not allowed to speak? perhaps he is considered inferior and should know his place? Rubbish.

As for Gillian showing the guys a thing or two, it has not happened yet sadly but I still agree with your New Order line-up. Welcome to NOOL Mick

I can't find this article on the site- another example of my burgeoning stupidity I guess...

Where is it?

Gillian produced a special synth sound I feel that sound has been lost and replaced with more guitar sound with Phil joining the band. Hasn't anyone picked this up ?

With Gil in the band there would have been more synth sound. Now that she's gone the whole album resulted in a more guitar based sound , maybe that's what the band members wanted ?

She must have shown Steve a thing or two, and i bet Hooky had a butchers too!!!

I agree that the band lacks something without her, not to put down Phil at all, a certain level of unproffesionalism adds to the music, most of the early synth stuff was born out of fuck ups, without them there would be no blue monday, without that their musical carears would have probably been a lot shorter.

I want her back, too. The presence of Gillian added to the unpredictability of the live shows...she was just as much of a part of the culture of sloppy playing as everyone else (except for Steve, who never screws anything up). Maybe it was out of tribute to Gillian, but I don't understand why they don't have a full-time live keyboardist. Yes, they needed an extra guitarist, but why can't they add an extra body? The guitar stuff must be more of a philosophical decision to eschew keyboards for now than anything else.

And yes, the lack of Gillian when they accepted the lifetime achievement award is inexcusable.

more members, money gets thinner between all of them.:deal:

put things in perspective: gillian has more important things to think about that new order at the moment! i'd like to see her back, as well, but it's not going to happen!

as for phil, the new guy at school always gets scrutinized (at best) and stuffed into lockers (at worst). at least the band found some way to make it work; it may not be ideal, but they're still together, still making music, and still touring (hopefully at least one more time).

at least they've managed to keep the same drummer all these years. that's a pretty extraordinary feat!

Nothing wrong with a fivesome, is there? Keep Phil and bring back Gillian!

Ah I wondered where this month's Bring Back Gillian thread was!

Even Gillian must be getting bored of these threads...

I miss her so much! Gillian was really essential part of New Order magick. Phil is too pro, with him they have lost the feel of danger. Now there is only Barney and Hooky playing bum notes. And her presence was so majestic.

Welcome to the board, Michael! Always nice to see new people around here. I wish Gillian would come back too; I do miss having her in the band. Why don't they bring her back but keep Phil on too, as someone else (forgotten who, sorry) suggested? That way, everyone would be happy.

Good call!! I do miss Gillian. When she went, the old sound went out of the window.I'd love to see a return to that sound. The Order were the best when they appealed both to the guitar freeks and the cool electro mob.:thumb:

YOu mean the NME thing? She was there, on the stage when they accepted the award, she stayed in the background to the right-side talking to PSB's if my memory is working today.

for some reason I got the impression that gillian had a calming influence on bernard- i don't know why! But another good reason to want her back. not going to happen though.

I read that there was a lot of antagonism between them; allegedly he used to question her usefulness...

Hopefully this is just a distortion / exaggeration...

Can't remember where I read it thou':confused2:

Yes!!! Get her back up there...

No disrespect to Phil but she definitely brought something extraordinary to the band...kool dark synths and a rather childish shyness that they were known for...and I think they had more of a bumpy ride back then which made them just that more interesting expecially in their music...Something was lost when she left...They're a little more predictable now with so much of a guitar based foundation.

I go with the 5 as well.

I think if Gillian were to step out on stage we'd all go nuts!!!
