My copy of Low Life is scratched – lucky I have it on the computer too so I can “burn” another copy. I’ve always preferred the 12” version of the Perfect Kiss though, and was thinking of putting it in

as you are not mastering it to vinyl with the time constraints therein you have no reason to exclude the phantasmagoria of sound that is the pucker 12"

Not a puritan amongst you. I would’ve put the 12” on anyhow. I did wonder if there were any people out there with a “don’t touch it – even if it is a fuck up” approach. There clearly isn’t.
12" is better but I still like to listen to the album version at times to see where the roots were.

"The roots"? The 12 was the original - the Low-life mix was edited down, rather than the usual 80s practice of "extending" mixes for the 12"!

One helpful tip:
Always remember folks, when you're singing along to the edited album version at the top of yer voice, to include the "Wwww...." bit just after the second chorus....
That makes ALL the difference....y'knaa? :wink3: 
I can remember my joy on hearing John playing the 12" - I had taped LL onto a cassette and loved TPK, then when I heard the proper full length version I was blown away, espescially with the "When you are alone at night" part.
Anywan who prefers the album version wants a good skelp 
I remember that I bought the two (12" of TPK and LowLife LP) at the same time from Volume Records in Newcastle cos they both came out on the same day (strange to recall NO doing this) and I played the 12" single first before the LP, so I was already exposed to the full length extravaganza before coppin' an earful of the edited album one.
I was completely blown away by that huge ending even then. I doubt New Order have ever surpassed it! :)
12" of course. And do the same with Elegia. (And Love Vigilantes as well if you're one of the happy few who found the hidden track in Retro.)

However, it's the second track on Low-Life, and substituting the full-length version for the edit would make the record rather lopsided. I'm of the CD generation, but I've always thought of albums as A and B sides.
Stephen Morris said 'The Perfect Kiss' was like a movie for the ears...it is pseudo cinematic. I'd say 'Thieves Like Us' is nearly that way too.
One is a fuzzy paparazzi picture of a glamour model. The other is a blowjob from same model. Why take the amateurish edit when you can have the real thing?

Yes, but - i remember getting a version of LowLife (could have been an italian import or something like that) which had The full version ov TPK at the end of side 1 and the 2 B sides (I love Perfect Pit!) on the end of side 2. So Clock could do something like that
