Hordern Pavillion - Gig Review

After a day spent sight seeing at the AMP Tower, Sydney Harbour Bridge, Opera House & Aquarium, we gathered, as agreed, at 5.30pm, at Bar Cleveland on Cleveland St, just south of the city centre.

Met up with Dennis Remmer & friends to chew the NO cud & generally chill out before the gig. Not quite Pad Bar but the place served it's purpose.

Allen J made all efforts to get hold of our 'contact' so we could secure our guest list tix but to no avail. Rather than panic we bought some of the tix still om sale at the venue but this meant we had to leave BC pre 7pm.

After a few more drinks, this time at the Fox & Lion & then the venue we took up our traditional spot just in front of Hooky.

Adam Read has detailed the set list elsewhere so i won't regurgitate this.Needless to say, it was looking booring as fuck until Isolation kick in.

Prettymuch, the same old set, I'm afraid. At least you guys arn't missing much.

Th tracks that seemed to stimulate the fans the most included Temptation, BLT & LWTUA. Generally the Sydney crowd were up for it & barney seemed in good spitits.

After 60mph, Al & Mrs were so bored they went to leave but ended up sitting with NO lighting man Andy Liddell until the end of the show.

Got a set list from Roger Lyon & then retired to a local Chinese.

So 3 gigs during this tour so far & 3 diff set lists so all could be much worse

Can't add much more to watch JG's already said. Though will try, cos it's bloody p*ssing down here and I want to stay in, and out of the wet.

Venue was much bigger than I'd anticipated. Expected something a tad more intimate but we got something akin to a basketball theatre (the round-the-edge seating certainly appeared to imply that). Acoustics were okay, mind.

This one perhaps had the feel of a band going through the motions. Again. Barney's trying but Hooky just looked absolutely fuct from the start (what do these boys have in their riders these days, apart from pies (lots of them) of course?). And Phil C was fairly anonymous throughout.

For the real trainspotters, Barney had on a bloody pair of the limited edition gold-snakeskin-stripe Adidas trainees that have just come out; much to me annoyance as I couldn't get a pair in my size for love nor money before coming away! And Hooky had a death's head on his T-shirt - a twinge of nostalgia as he always had one on his speakers in the Good Ol' Days (which last night read SALFORD RULES. Again).

To be blunt though, bored sh*tless for 90mins, but then we get Isolation and you realise why you quite like this band so much. Like watching a dire 0-0 footie game then sneaking an injury time winner. Still doesn't stop you going home and dissecting all the band points though.

And Diane and Andy, the mixing and lights duo seem genuinely shocked to see us there, but then they should've realised a long time ago just what sad bastards we really are.

Right, now have to find something to do INDOORS in Sydney (where HAS all the sun gone?), but there's a few footie pages to exhaust first.. .

That last post should, of course, have read "dissecting all the BAD points", not "band points"! And, last night, there seemed to be bloody loads of 'em! Still, it's the faults that make 'em so special (I keep telling meself!)..

24 hours after the show and slightly lashed again, have to agree with DCs comments.

This is a greatest hits tour with a few GR highlights chucked in for promotional purposes. If you aint seen 'em much recently then they should rock your shack off. Melbournites - you have 2 great shows in store.

But if you lack faith in the law of diminishing returns - go to see NO 18 times on the same cocking tour for reassurance!

Dennis - hope you had a great time last night. Switched the mobile off once I had problems keeping my eye lids open. See first post in this thread, typo city, kept falling asleep as I was keying! Look forward to seeing the snaps, if you can scan 'em, either on here or email me.

Been to Sydney Zoo today. 10 GBP for a whole islands worth of entertainment, top value. Even saw a Tasmainian Devil. Although not the type you Aussies might be thinking of ;) We weren't the only ones to check out the Zoo. Mr P. Cunningham & girlfriend had the same idea. We caught the same ferry as them back to the mainland. PCs bird had interesting fasion sense to say the least - how does a tartan mini skirt, flat soled shoes & white cotton socks up to the knee sound as a combo lads? Not bad, oh ok.

DC - think we need to identify somewhere specific to meet or we are gonna have these probs every time. No idea where the show is on Sat'dy, got any ideas for a meet?
