Songwriting Credits

I know that Barney pretty much wrote Temptation and all of Republic, and that S. Morris did TPK and BLT...but does anyone know of any songs that Hooky mostly did himself? I think I remember hearing that he wrote the music for Atmosphere and that was his personal greatest accomplishment....

I remember reading somewhere that Hooky wrote the main music for Touched by the Hand of God...Id imagine he was also the main writer behind 60 mph and Primitive Notion...as well as maybe Regret..and I think LWTUA started with Hookys bass riff.

Most of the music on Technique sounds like it was written by Barney and Gillian with Hooky and Steve adding thier amazingess to them....

i dont think there is anyway to tell for sure since they share all credits, it is said that hooky wrote the Intro-Synth bassline for Touched by the hand of god. i did read somwhere that hooky credits barney for coming up with his unique bass sound, urging him to use the delay/chorus pedals and also telling him to buy the 6 string bass

They are of course better as a group than individually. Bernard cant be solely responsible for too much without imput from others - otherwise all their stuff would be as crap as Electronic (sorry to any electronic fans - I cannot stand Electronic) Pathetic corny and horrible dated.

Gathered from the interviews I've read, this is my general outlook:

Movement-Bernard, Hooky, and Stephen's record, teaching Gillian throughout. "Dreams Never End" is of course Hooky's baby.

PCL-the group's effort, although I suspect lyrically/musically Bernard took the lead on 'Age of Consent', 'Your Silent Face', and 'Leave Me Alone'.

LowLife-again, a collaborative effort.

I think by the time of Brotherhood, Barney more regularly asserted himself as the main songwriter, which coincided with his improved singing (in the sense that his pitch was much better). I imagine he took the lead with Technique too. Same goes for Republic but of course a lack of group recording weakened the record, among other things.

For the singles, I'm not sure beyond the obvious ones.

And I believe that guy that once said there's a demo by Electronic. I think it's in the beggining of Haze, or Prodigal Son maybe, that he whispers the chorus...

The original hard techno/house version of Crystal Bernard did was pretty good.

Popular rumor has it that Dream Attack was the work of Gillian (the demo name escapes me, "Gillian's _____".) Coincidentially, it's probably my all-time favorite New Order track.

When your talking about about songwriting does that include both lyrics and music? I have a hard time believing that hooky wrote the lyrics for krafty.

In the NME when Hooky reviewed WFTSC track by track, he said 'I was in a taxi when this came on, and the driver said it brought a lump to his throat. Goes to show Barney can still do it.'

I think Bernard does the lyrics of everything though.

What about Dreams Never End? Didn't Hooky do those?

A little off topic, but I recall a mag article a few years ago where Barney said he liked Monaco's "What do you want from me?", and suggested "I think he (Hooky) did a really good job, he must have had quite a bit of help with that" CTB
