hey i work at a radio station and the promo of the new singles album has just been serviced & track 16 on cd 2 is TURN...it also is an edited version which also sounds re-recorded from the album version.

the singles collection also has the original 7" versions of ceremony, everything's gone green, temptation, confusion (7" promo version), thieves like us (7" promo version) & 1963 which clims to be the arthur baaker remix but it is in fact the original 7" true faith b-side version RUN 2 is the 7" promo version, (i think) ...basically they are all 7" single version sapart from blue mondya which is the original 1983 12" version

the whole album sounds great & the turn edit sounds really good!

Hope this helps you lot, with the mystery of the TURN ..single or not?? !

Hi Jase

what you have stated links in with the other thread :

"Singles" promo on EBay -- Turn is listed on it."

the cd-r promo has track 16 on cd2 as 'working overtime'

the 'radio' promo has 'turn' as track 16

and 'turn' will appear on the actual release

obviously somebody had a change of mind somewhere down the line

cheers

Chris

Thank God, at least Blue Monday is the 12" version. I was strickly against the idea of having 7" edit, which, we all know, was never released back in 1983.

Turned out nice again!:\ohwell:

just listened to the whole album again & TURN is definately an edit and very possible slightly remixed or re-recorded!!!and all the tracks are the original 7" edits apart from Blue Monday '83 1963 is the original b-side version from 1987-

here are the track timings!!...

ceremony - 4:38 procession - 4:29 everything's gone green - 4:10 temptation - 5:23 blue monday - 7:25 confusion - 4:54 thieves like us - 3:56
the perfect kiss - 4:50 sub-culture - 3:26 shellshock - 4:23 state of the nation - 3:30 bizarre love triangle - 4:19 true faith - 5:51 1963 - 4:19 touched by the hand of god - 3:42 blue monday '88 - 4:07 fine time - 3:09 round & round - 3:58 run 2 - 4:29 world in motion - 4:29 regret - 4:07 ruined in a day - 3:57 world - 3:38 spooky - 3:43 crystal - 4:18 60 miles an hour - 3:47 here to stay - 3:55 krafty - 3:46 jetstream - 3:43 waiting for the sirens call - 3:50 turn - 4:10

is your promo a CD-R or a pressed disc?

it's two pressed discs! which come in a gatefold cd sleeve....very similar to Substance (vinyl)

At 4:29 that can't be Run 2, which is only 3:30 or so, unless it's some previously unknown mix -- possible, but not likely. It's almost certainly the original Run, which is indeed 4:29 or so.

Strangely enough, after ripping the audio from A Collection, I found that the video version of 1963 (a variation on the Baker mix) is 4:13, which makes it pretty close to the timing of 1963 on Singles, but reports now say that Singles has an edit of the original version. I hope that's right, because the original is far superior, even as good as Baker's mix is.

What did you use to rip the audio from A Collection DVD? I used Total Recorder, so I could finally have a good quality version of run2, but i'm not sure if there is a more efficient or higher quality method? Thanks, sorry this is on a tangent...

There are actually two different 7" mixes of Run (at least on this Warner Brothers promo cassette I recently acquired)! :)

I'll check timings shortly to see if either are 4:09... :hat:

Uh-oh - here we go once again then.....it's time to play "spot the discrepancies amongst the versions" again.

It appears - as feared - London Records aren't doing their homework properly again, as has been widely debated here by many other forumers - and with good reason.

So these tracks are catagorically NOT the "seven inch" edits after all if the timings are anything to go by:

The Perfect Kiss - that's the LP version not the 4.24 mins FBN123/Fac123 shorter edit. Bizarre Love Triangle - album version yet again. Single version is 3.44 mins True Faith - the 7" version is 4.13 mins - that one listed is the 12" full version. Run2 is the album version yet again (same as what we got on "Best Of")....

I use ImToo's DVD Audio Ripper.

Looking forward to hearing about the various Run mixes. Since it seems like Confusion is also a different edit from the 1983 7" promo, it's quite possible we'll be getting some interesting and unusual versions on this release.

There are still some unreleased mixes I've read about on-forum here(Can't remember which songs tho') which could make up space on CD single or 12" vinyl releases of Turn not so much as if but when the single release sees the light of day.

Agreed on the BLT/True Faith/Run 2 versions, but actually the Low-life edit of Perfect Kiss was the seven inch version here in the UK, so technically, that is the correct version to feature. There is a slightly shorter FBN edit which is essentially the same as the Low-life mix, and a completely messed about with Promo 7 inch edit that doesn't fade and is a terrible edit. They have actually featured the "proper" seven inch mix on this.

Well, 'Turn' is only some 20 seconds shorter for the edited version then. How did you track this CD down? How does 'Confusion' differ from the regular 7 inch - it's 50-odd seconds longer according to your timings above. Also, is 'Spooky' the Fluke 'Minimix' (the single version in the UK) or the Album Edit that only came out in the US and on promos in the Uk?

the record company sent me the album for airplay...i'm a huge NO fan and obviously got very excited about seeing turn on there, so i gave it a listen and it sounded different..i played the album version and low & behold it's different they have done an edit. It's starts with the fade intro and then straight into the lead guitar bit. all in all not much different to the original album version but it does sound a lot "fresher" in the sense that it seems to have been r-recorded for radio!

As for spooky it's the album edit version!

cd1 with ceremony, Thieves like us, confusion etc is great! Confusion is very good..it's sounds like a re-edit of the original 12" ...i've not heard this version before!!! Also i don't know if it's just me but "Here to stay" sounds different...Hooky's bass sounds louder in the mix!

all the tracks on the album sound re-mastered too!

Okey dokey, tracklisting for this promo cassette is as follows:

  1. Run (7" Original) 3:43
  2. Run (7" Remix) 3:46
  3. Run (12" Mix) 5:29

So, doesn't look like any of the above match the timings for the 'Singles' compilation, so it must be the album version as several people have observed... Quite why the single version of "Run2" is on 'Item', but the audio version isn't on 'Singles' remains a mystery... :brow:

What is this promo cassette to which you refer? Never heard of it before, or the 7" Original / 7" Remix - which one is the version of the original 12"?

Hi Andy,

I've posted details in the discogs thread here - hope that helps. I *think* (but it's a long time since I listened to the 12"), that track 3 is indeed the original 12"?

Cheers, Nick :)

So, what's the difference between the 2 7" mixes? Is one the extended mix cropped down, or is one an edited album version? What we all think of as "Run 2" (the first track on the 12") could be either the 7" or the 7" Remix, depending on how you look at it. Never knew there was a third mix of this track!
