New Order & The Gay Community...

I would guess the most gay disco sounding, most poppy and upbeat, like 86-89 era.

all of my gay friends have very different tastes in music, so i don't think i could answer this one!

I guess it would depend on the age of the person. My gay friends are fond of older New Order (PCL) and Technique (clubby Ibiza stuff).

I agree with you on this one. One just can't people in a box and stereotype them. Just as I said in an earlier thread, that straight (at least some of them) people like dance music as well.

most typical average "gays" are similar to average "straights"... they listen to whatever their peer group and media outlets tell them to listen to, then when they get over 25 years old they listen to the same thing over and over and claim that all new bands/styles that kids listen to are stupid, and that all kids nowadays are stupid and have no taste...

any trends that i have ever noticed is that some "gays" listen to Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, and New Order becasue they think they are suppossed to... these people probably are not Joy Division fans. i guess it all depends what music was new when they were 20 and who they were hanging around with

I think people are being too politically correct on this thread.

interesting thread, but it's kind of difficult to say what the gay community as a whole would like - and also, does it have any more relevance than the preferance of the "average man on ther street".

What a curious question...as a sort of member of the gay "community" (well I'm gay anyway) I hate Technique and love Power, Corruption & Lies, Low-Life and Get Ready.

I have to echo what people have said above - my bedroom tastes are nothing to do with my musical ones. I don't assume *all* straights love Celine Dion and Simply Red. I know some of you have great taste ;)

I have lots of gay friends, and most of them like Technique. And they love dancemusic, techno etc. That's why I picked Technique in this poll.

I guess we have different taste, gay or not. And that's a good thing.

I have no GAY friends,ther are no GAYS in my village,GAYNESS is indeed frowned upon in my part of the country. So what the fook is this thread all about? I mean barney is the epitome of the gay cliche,sounds very effeminate when he talks/sings,most mancs do(inc surrounding areas) even rocket mick sounds gay!

Sorry couldnt resist! I mean got to an erasure gig and you kno they are gay,go to a no gig and you can just tell that the singer could'nt give a fook and is very disinterested with the way of the world.

Interesting answer - considering I'm not a Londoner. And how is it 'right on'? I would have expected someone to have told me off for not being a 'PC' Guardian reader... Also, I was referring to the claims in the press (not from myself or other N.O. fans) that N.O. fans are/were either gay or football hooligans.

mean that gay people shouldn't be welcome at NOOL? Or does it mean that NOOL is essentially a 'gay' site, as many gay people love New Order too?

From my point of view, I don't care what someone's sexual orientation/colour/religion is - if they appreciate New Order, then they're alright by me.

The poll was simply to guage people's views of the albums - I could easily have done a poll on which album would appeal most to hooligans - just happened to post the 'gay' option, reason being that a friend of mine was round yesterday and wanted to listen to New Order - I gave him the option of all the albums and he immediately picked out 'Technique' and proceeded to dance/mince around while the Mrs and I killed ourselves laughing...

I get the impression that MOST people here are secure enough in their sexuality and just see this kind of poll as silly but interesting.
