That thread about Vikings and "Spotters" is pretty offensive. I mean I don't care a damn much really but I see the freaking face behind it. That's obscene.

There are always going to be two camps at NOOL: those who believe it can be divided into two camps, and those that don't.

Have you ever encountered such a diverse range of education, qualifications, skills and attributes such as those possessed across NOOL before? You may never understand that the common bond here is the music of New Order, and that we all come from all walks of life, education, jobs etc to meet up at gigs when we can and communicate online in-between because we like the band and drinking/socialising. OK, getting to be like a scratched record, but i'll do it;

1/ I am sorry about the 'kissing' thing. I noticed that some of the gay jokes were by people I would have previously categorised as 'The Vikings'. Obviously not you and not all of the people I mistakenly categorised as 'The Vikings';. Now I realise that we can all be Vikings?

2/ I am sorry for offending you personally, but what didn't help is that you've slagged me off a lot in the past before all this Viking malarky.

3/ I don't want to be the 'enfant terrible'. I have held back on occassion (hard to believe I accept).

4/ How can it 'surely be the next step' that I will accuse people of being racist? Jeez, calm down; what i'm saying, if you read what i've already posted, is that people should compare racism to homophobia and then see if it's funny to make gay jokes when people are upset.

5/ Gay jokes and jokes on ethnicity are fine so long as they are not offensive. If anyone does make a racist joke of a nasty nature, this little 'sunshine' will pop up, just as I hope you and others would.

6/ I don't see why you are bringing my family into it. I was just as anti-racist before I had a black family. You don't have to be black to understand racism, although as a Londoner I'm sure I don't need to tell you that.

In summary; I am sorry for all the offence I caused. Really, I am AND i can see that we can all be Vikings and that division doesn't really help.

It's not a case of 'all being Vikings' though. It's a loose terminology, so I've said. We don't have membership cards, or secret handshakes or badges or ... nope, we do have badges ... but it's just a bunch of mates who do gigs, nothing more to it than that. In the same ways as we have the London Order, the Corby Order, the Re-Order, or whatever. I don't know who you know here, Craig, if anyone, but a lot of lads/lasses here are genuine mates of mine so to make blanket accusations against people touches a nerve, especially if my name is also implicitly implied. To me, THIS is what following the Order means to me these days, as does THIS - a lot of people coming together as one for the love of the music, and the social, so I don't like divisions on this forum and don't like to see the Vikings dumbed down. We do intend to play some places other than London eventually, but to be fair the band is a lesser priority than our families etc. We're all 20+ year New Order veterans and have careers and such like that don't allow us to play gigs all over the country, much as we'd like to.

Maybe a Saturday gig could be considered though, if we could combine it with a Friday one oop north as well.

new small indie venue opened in accrington,lancs at weekends. about time,ive waited years for it to happen.maybe,just maybe!!! o god.if could sort digital or re-order there :D
