Hi All,
My wife and I will be taking a trip to the UK and London next month; it's our first trip and I'm are looking for a few for a few recommendations of good record shops beyond the big box stores, Virgin, Tower, HMV, et al. in London. We'll be staying in the Belgravia neighborhood, but plan to get around the city on the buses and the Tube.
Being a New Order fan for nearly 25 years (I must be getting old!) I figured this would be a good place for some advise.

Not sure about the best place to get New Order stuff, but I would recommend taking a trip up to Camden.
Camden tube station is on the Northern Line (thats the black one one the tube map) a couple of stops north of King's Cross.
Once you get to Camden, head up towards Camden Lock. Once you get over the bridge there's a decent market where you can get CDs, clothes, and get yourself some lovely japanese noodles to eat. Best to go on a Saturday or Sunday between 10am and 4pm as that is when most of the stuff is open.
should also warn you though, that you'll probably get ten people try to sell you weed on your way up there!
the West End (Oxford St, Piccadilly etc) is mainly HMV, Virgin, Tower Records type places; although, if you look carefully around the side streets between Leicester Square and chinatown areas, there are a couple of decent little places.

Try the Music Exchange stores (2nd hand & rarities) in Notting Hill Gate. District or Circle Line on the Underground and 2 minute walk from the station - 3 different stores selling New Order stuff - the usual plus rarities etc.
Camden Market is a good one for the occasional boot of a gig or demo on CD, DVD and VHS.
Also, (if it's still open) there's a good place on Upper Street (Islington) - Angel tube, turn right and walk up the road for 10 mins - 'Collectors' Records or something like that.
Another second hand place off Oxford Street (Use Tottenham Court Road Tube) it's in a side road near a Spanish bar.

Who are just about to merge - Sister Ray bought Selectadisc fairly recently...

Oh, and btw, for those that didn't know, Selectadisc is the shop featured on the front cover of Oasis' "What's The Story Morning Glory" album... :)

If it's Reckless Records you're thinking of, it closed it's Upper Street shop fairly recently...

That's the one Nick - I used to live in Islington and it was a favourite haunt before going to 'Finnegan's Wake' 'The Three Johns' or 'The PintPot' to sit with a beer and admire my purchases.

For God's sake DON'T bother going to Camden!
As Craig said walk down Berwick Street (off Oxford Street). There's Selectadisc (cheap, vast, good for virtually all genres), Mr. CD (worth it for getting cheap copies of new releases - often £8 or thereabouts), Sister Ray (always has all the LTM rereleases of Factory/Crepuscule bands and also has a load of Kraftwerk/Joy Div bootlegs out on the shelves. Not so good for reggae/soul - try Selectadisc if that's what you're into). Next door to Sister Ray there's a small Music and Video Exchange, smaller than the ones in Notting Hill, but still worth a look in. They will have a section of Factory/Manc vinyl on in the centre of the shop opposite the card racks for CDs - sometimes there's something good there, but don't hold your breath! Have a look downstairs for cheap bargain CDs. Before you get down as far as Sister Ray/MVE, there are two Reckless Records 2nd hand shops on the left. One is rock/pop/jazz/soul/reggae, with a good selection of CDs and vinyl and a baement for 'collectors' vinyl. It's well categorized, so you should be able to find Factory/New Order stuff if you want. The other Reckless is dance/electronic. Finally on Broadwick Street (turn left just before you get to the 'street market' bit of Berwick Street) there's Sounds Of The Universe which is associated with the Soul Jazz label. Well worth a look in - they specialize in post-punk, reggae/dub, modern jazz and various other related genres.

Thanks to everybody who replied - lot's of good info. I'm pretty sure I'm going to need to bring an extra bag for the CD's I'll probably buy.
And I see that NO is going to play in Manchester the day after we leave the UK! It'll still be a great trip, but if I could have seen NO in Manchester - it would have been perfect.
