BBC4 Tonight - John Peel Tribute

Starting from 9pm with "friends" paying tribute. Also stuff about The Fall, PJ Harvey and The Undertones. Of most interest is probably the 'In Session' programme at 10.30pm, which promises a performance from Joy Division.

I'm looking forward to it as I missed it when it was first broadcast last year, I seem to recall some classy stuff being an there and some crap also.

Saw the JD Transmission clip. Fantastic performance. The crowd were terribly lame though.

watched it last night, including the Fall thing with Mark Smith. sure loves his ale doesn't he? there's loads of poets like hime in my local pub. shit spouters, but without the backing band.

what was Pat Nevin doin on the show before the Fall? must have good taste in music though, for an Ex-blue nose.

makes me wanna go out and buy more Fall now.

thank god i turned over and didn't stick with Grimsby v Newcastle. what crap that was. although a bit better than the Crystal Palace match the night before.

That Fall documentary was great. They should Knight Smith just so's he can tell the Queen to fook off. And as for Nevin - everyone knows he was the "thinking man's footballer". The only one ever, in fact - just 'cos he liked New Order more than Luther Vandross. Somebody on here told a great story about how, when he signed for Everton, he had it written into his contract that he could leave his first match for the Toffeemen at half-time so's he could catch a New Order gig down the road. What's the betting he's at at least one of the forthcoming gigs?

Yeah, nice to see Ian doing the dead fly in digital widescreen lovliness. 'Something Else' must have had some sort of crowd control policy, during The Banshees some of them looked like they'd been told "sit there, look cool, don't move"!

Half Man Half Biscuit was a pleasant surprise, and it was a shame that they chose to show Smiths and Happy Mondays performances where they mimed, but there you go.

That was a great result. Liverpool are complete sh*te.

I liked it when Paul Morley said about Mark E. Smith losing it in the mid-90s: 'Oh no. Perhaps we've mistaken him for an old drunken tramp.' Still, great man though. Met Steve Hanley and Craig Scanlon in a pub playing a quiz machine before a gig years ago. They seemed good lads.

Mr Kershaw, is it possible Liverpool will win the European Cup again but get relegated this season?

Who knows? can't see us being lucky again in the EC. it's someone elses turn this time. we just can't score. simple as that. and the supply is crap too. Cisse on the right wing? What the fuck!! Rafa puts the emphasis on defending. but footy is all about scoring more than your opponents. I'll tell you what - if we don't get a win against the Hammers on Saturday, the Kop are gonna make their feelings known. it's already tense where i sit. no ones turned on Rafa yet. just the odd player. hope Crouchy scores his first - just to shut some people up. West Ham always turn up to play footy, and their fans are some of the loudest to go Anfield, so hopefully it will be a good game. errrr....can't wait.

Story was from me and came straight from the horses mouth....he DJ'd for us a couple of times when I had the pub. It was when he was re-signing for Chelsea, he got them to agree to him leaving a friendly game against Brentford at half time so as he could catch NO at the Royal Festival Hall.

Great taste in music, though four Belle & Sebastian records in a two hour set was a bit much.

Anyone heard about Smith getting to read out the football results on bbc one saturday afternoon in November. I saw the story on a website a couple of weeks ago.

Also, I used to play for Everton FC youth team when Pat Nevin played for them. He never really got on with Howard Kendall so I'm not sure he'd get to sneak away for a concert!! He did have a joy division t-shirt though.

although i've just read glasvegas' mail properly and it was before kendall took over I think.!.......good story
