ENGLANDneworder 2006 World Cup Song

With New Order being very much back in the public eye at the moment with their induction in The UK Music Hall of Fame and playing at school assemblies, do you think they should consider another **[white][black]ENGLAND[/black][/white]**neworder collaboration for the 2006 World Cup?

World in Motion may not rank that highly amongst New Order fans' favourite songs, but if given the chance do you think they should record a new version (with Rio Ferdinand doing the John Barnes rap), or should they record a new song?

If anything, it would show non-NO fans that they're still producing great music 16 years after Italia '90.

The time they'd spend in the studio could be better used for another gig

Anything new would be awesome. But a whole new song would rock.

What a fantastic idea.

The obvious benefits being:

1. Everyone drunkenly chanting "Auf Weiderszenn its one on one!".

2. We could then get a world cup encore at NO gigs.

3. get to see No in one of their videos again.

4. England always do well when NO release a WC song.

5. It would probably be better than Kaiser Chief and Kasabian official releases.

Downsides:

1. none

Yeah, its only as stupid as vinny jones playing for wales or any other player playing for there 'adopted' countrys.

I doubt it would happen, but cool if it did, as long as it didn't feature that Mr Potato head chav (Dont mind him scoring goals for us but THATS ALL).

I agree with that point of view. Anyway, I don't like football... NO aren't really good at making "special songs" : many people don't like WIM, Vietnam is nothing but a cover though NO could have made an effort to write a new song for such a cause...

"World In Motion" and "Such A Good Thing" are my favourite songs. I prefer them to Ceremony, True Faith, Regret, Perfect Kiss, Round & Round and sometimes Blue Monday. They're top notch!!

It means the band has interest in making that type of music and therefore makes it perfect! Yeah!!!!

Oh this really gets my goat! As has been pointed out, Roy Keane is Irish and the mere suggestion of him being on the English football teams song is enough to make me puke and enough to put Mr. Keane into one of his violent rages, you'll be lucky if he doesn't find out where you live, come around and put you out of action for 6 months to a year!

Despite saying this, I actually quite like the 'World in Motion' song, I think if the whole 'Engerland' bit was taken out it would be a lot better though, and sure the rap isn't great, but it doesn't really bother me that much. Overall 'World in Motion' is probably the best football song ever so if New Order do another England football theme I'd be happy to give it a listen. Anything to replace that God damn 'Three Lions on the Shirt' crap. Whatever happens though England are, as ever not going to reach the glories of 1966 in 2006.

I agree to an extent but I'd rather see them get back into the studio for something of musical value rather than a quick novelty song :) especially a bloody football one! I mean doing a Justin Timberlake cover would get them back into the studio but it would the end result be worth it?

They did one World Cup song, got the token number one and they shouldn't go back. If New Order do another one they'll be branded "the World Cup band" which even football NO fans must think would be awful. Sticking to regular tracks is the way forward, charity/football/campaign songs are always cheesy and the low point of any band's career IMO.

Totally agree with Ally on this. Let's all hope that Phil hanging around Bath recently means more action on the new album front.
