Where should I start with New Order CDs?

I want to ask for some New Order cds for Christmas, which ones should I start with???

I already have Waiting for the Siren's Call and I have burned copies of Get Ready and Substance.

I don't want any greatest hits or compilations or anything... ...looking for real albums.

What do you suggest I ask for?

My favorite song is True Faith (duh) and my favorite video is The Perfect Kiss.

New Order is becoming my favorite band. Up there with the Pixies...

If Perfect Kiss is your favourite, get Low-life first. I'd then get Technique, Power, Corruption & Lies and Brotherhood.

i'd still say get Singles. for studio albums go for Low Life, Technique, and Power Corruption and Lies.

What was I saying at my previous post? Start in sequence from Power, Lies, and Corruption on.

Technique & Movement/JD albums for contrast.

I think substance is an excellent cd to start with but it is essentially a compilation sans true faith.

I was first introduced to NO by listening to Lowlife so I would suggest that or brotherhood because it really shows the breathe of NO's earlier work before their stumbled on the more dance-oriented/programmed sound like technique.

True Faith is on Substance.

In (order):

PCL Technique LowLife (now you can get a comp : get Substance) Brotherhood (now you can get another comp : Retro) now you get 'retrospective' and... get... Movement Unknown Pleasures (Joy Division) Closer (Joy Division) (get a Joy Division comp : Heart and Soul) (now back to the lighter side of things...) Republic Get Ready Waiting for the Sirens Call

Just get them all. Eventually you know you will. :D

My vote is for Technique!

Do it in this order:

Technique Power, Corruption & Lies Low Life Brotherhood

Don't bother with Movement or Republic

I've started with PC&L and Low Life, then Technique… you can't go wrong with this choice !

You are alot like me. Perfect Kiss is my favourite too. I am late on seeing vidos, as I missed the whole MTV '80s thing, and only two weeks ago saw the video for this one for the very first time as a friend taped VH1C for me...My favourite of all time. I am a newbie here, so forgive me if I intrude. I read a couple of your post replies but I am in a rush....Substance is a good one, has Perfect Kiss, the full length version and it's b-side dub mix "Kiss of Death" and I love em both.

I, myself have remixed Perfect Kiss. Yes, I am a musician, and a remixer/producer. This was back in the '80s, when I was a kid just starting out. I did it from the album version from Low-Life. Loved the track, just thought it deserved to be longer (hadn't yet heard any other version of it, this was a long time ago) so I made it longer and warped the synth and drum break so that part of it was backwards and re-recorded it. I still have that one. A bit rough, but that can be a good thing, and it still sounds good too...I think the band would like what I did with it. I remember Bernard and the boys complaining on their latest televised interview that when they get remixes done, the remix producer usually just takes the vocal and plops in on to his or her own music, and somtimes that doesn't work. My remix kept the track intact...just a bit longer, and with that backwards break.

But, hey, I am off the subject here...Beg the parents to get you several cds from these guys. Low-life, Substance (two cd set with b-sides, you already have) and pretty much any of the releases from their start to after the time of Technique seems to have the best sound.

I think using computers nowadays has hurt the sound of many recording artists nowadays slightly....Doing it the old way is better. Everyone uses Pro-tools and the latest digital geegaws nowadays, and everyone usually sounds the same lately...me being a bit old-skool I guess...I prefer to use reel-to-reel and mixing consoles and all that stuff. (although New Order still does well with their new stuff, being an exception to the rule) But, I like their '80s stuff the best.

err, it's pixies, not the pixies, but ignnoring that if you like them then go for the more guitary ones like low life & then brotherhood. technique is perceived by many as their most complete album but is more dance orientated.

Good one, all of you, really! I love all these EPs. My copy of Low-life is vinyl. So is my copy of Substance. I have a Substance cd, but the first disc skips on the last few tracks...bad pressing. (money well-spent!-NOT!)My favourite tracks too! (Grrr...) Good thing I have a vinyl copy.

I could not keep cassette copies of Technique when I lived in Samoa. People kept stealing my tapes! People in American Samoa sometimes can be nimble-fingered...and some are kleptomaniacs that just have to steal anything they don't have. I must have bought three or four replacements in 1992-1993, before the record store owner in American Samoa started thinking that I was reselling them and he started lying to me and said that they were "out of print" and wouldn't order more for me. (That lying peice of shit!) So, when I moved to the States, I bought cds, and upgraded from tapes, and the first ones was PCL and Technique.

The only thing I hate about albums, is the tracks are too damn short! Under five minutes for a dance tune is too short.

Couldn't agree more, a fine selection.

this was my order order:

after substance (my intro. when it first came out), i bought low-life, then brotherhood or PC&L (can't remember which i bought first--probably the former), technique, movement, republic, and the last two. but i would suggest either low-life or PC&L.

Actually, somebody nicked my CD of Technique last semester as well. Oh well.
