Ive been wondering, who played what on WFTSC..and who was responsible for the bulk of which songs.

I mean, I know that Barney sang, played guitar and maybe keyboards, Hooky, Steve played drums and did the sequencing and maybe played keys, and Phil played guitar, and maybe some keyboards......

I know that HNWYD was based off of Phils guitar riff..but what about the other songs?

Who played the synthesised orchestra and keyboards on Who's Joe?

Who played synths and guitar on Dracula's Castle? it sounds to me like Phil and Barney traded places on that one...

Hooky wrote the main riff for Krafty, but who played the synths and the keyboard solo....

Who wrote the bulk of Jetstream? Maybe it was one of Barneys pop song babies? Who played the synths on Jetstream...Phil, Barney, or both? How much did JET change after Stuart Price came aboard...how was the demo different....

How much of GIAUE is New Orders, how much of it was played by NO, and how much was created by Stuart Price or Mac Quayle? Did Phil even play on GIAUE? Speaking of which, on the MQ version, you can hear some of barneys scratch guitar...

Who do you think wrote the main riff for Turn...and on the live version of Turn, was the keyboard solo in the middle played by Phil or was it on a backing track?

I think the 95% of the synths on WFTSC were actually played by Barney, which would explain why Phil doesnt play them live.

Well, wrote what and played what? Discuss. :)

Impossible to say but for the most part I reckon Hooky and Phil keep to their guitars of choice almost exclusively. Steve and Bernard seem to be the technical ones.

No offence but but you do mention this in every single one of your posts here i.e. how the synths have suffered, Gillian's great, Phil's live 'guitar wankery' sucks blah blah etc. Well to be fair you haven't mentioned how much Phil's contributions suck (yet) but the thread is still young

As for who did the keyboards, potentially any one of them could have written or played them. If you look at the Electronic, Monaco and Other Two records there are plenty of great keyboard lines proving they can all play them when necessary.

My money would be on either Bernard or Steve as they would be the ones most likely to be around keyboards in the studio whereas Hooky would probably be more interested in jamming on his bass. Phil would be too busy rewinding his backing tapes :ignore: poor chap.

Phil doesn't play live keyboards? They must pre-program in all the the bum notes then...

THEY ALWAYS TINKLE ON EACH OTHER INSTRUMENTS. THATS WHAT KEEPS THEIR RELATIONSHIP SO FRESH AND EXCITING.

If you look at the stuff Steve plays live it's all '1 finger' stuff (solo on TPK, Blue Monday, BLT, etc)

When Bernard plays, he plays the more complex chords and in Blue Monday Reading '98 plays with Gillian doing the high note work and he actually does this whilst looking away which is pretty difficult. So, to summarise, Steve plays the more simpler stuff such as the clangy noise in Who's Joe (but does most of the programming) whereas I think Bernard plays more complex stuff such as the outro in Draculas Castle.

is it difficult to play keyboards w/o looking on a song that you Helped to Write & have Played live Around 5 Billion times? C'mon they may have taught themselves how to play but they have been playing for about 25 years now, im sure they are pretty handy with their gear. i doubt steve plays any keys on the album, he doesnt really have to. barney probably plays all the keys and most of the guitars and they let phil pick up the coffee & donuts:laugh:

You can recognize Bernard's keyboards because he prefers quick chord stabs instead of sustained notes.

When I said Phils synth parts were mimed live...I meant that only for the WFTSC songs. If you wath footage of them playing JET early in the tour....Phil alternates between playing guitar and keys..but later in the tour, he just plays guitar on JET and the jeyboard parts he previously played played themselves....meaning he mimed. Lame.

I just haor on it because what made New Order amazing to me was thier combination of dance/rock and keyboards/guitars...is just putting synth parts on a backign track instead of playing them seems lame to me. With Phil in the band, I dont like seeing the synths all pushed over to the side of the stage, as if they are unimportant, when they totally aer...

Of course, Phil does play actual keys on the older songs (BLT. TF, DM, ect), but he never seems to enjoy it...

Moving on....

Hannet of the Apes, which synth parts on WFTSC do you think are Barneys, and whic ones to you think are Phils or Steves?

And who actually played the most on GIAUE, New Order themselves, or did Stuart Price do most of the work...?

Horseshit, if you don't mind my saying. Steve doesn't play one-finger stuff because he can't play, he is triggering sequences and samples that have been patched into that kit for that song.

It's also worth remembering that no way were these songs recorded as in a live environment, with each individual having a specific part to play. Most of the keyboard parts probably aren't even played at all, they are entered note by note into whatever program they were using. The songs aren't written the same way as they used to be - whereas they used to be jammed live and evolve naturally, these days they are studio-crafted, and they only play live the ones that they have learned to.....

Didn't Mac Quayle did some keyboards on the album? I'd have to check the sleeve to be sure of it, but I think he did on a few tunes.

As for the rest, the press release was the best place to guess.. but there's one thing.. I'm pretty sure all lead vocals are from Bernard

According to the album credits he did, but it doesnt clarify as to what songs or if he just did if for his mix og GIAUE.

How much of the Mac Quayle mix of GIAUE is MQ and how much is New Order?

Was Phil behind most of 'WFTSC'?

On the 7" the etching says 'Phil'.

I'd be interested to know who added the acoustic guitar to some of the songs.
