When NO releases their album this summer, do you think that they should perform on SNL?

I see that my James Bond poll got the "No" answer from the majority. Do you think that this poll question sounds like a good idea. There have been complaints from some U.S. fans that WFTSC did not get enough promotion. If the SNL thing does not work, what are some other ways that NO can do to promote themselves in the U.S.?

Saturday Night Live.

Famous American TV show.

Thanx, Chris for the clarification.

Absolutely no! Why should New Order waste their time on some crappy TV show? Leave that show to some crappy artist, not New Order.

SNL has been on the air since 1975. The cast has changed over the years (you all have seen SNL alums in the movies), and some years have been great, while some years hav been crap, but it's an institution now. The format has always been the same-- comedy sketches, punctuated by two performances from the guest band. Lots of great bands have played SNL over the years, and lots of not-so-great bands, as well. New Order should definitely do SNL.

Its always cool to see New order performing whatever the show (perhaps not with Jonathon Ross) so sure. I think SNL want acts to mime on the show though (see what happened to that Simpson girl).

No, actually the artists don't mime on SNL (nor on most US TV shows), except of course when artists mime ALL the time, like the aforementioned talentless Simpson thing.

wow - i actually agree about this one - new order should do SNL, if SNL is interested that is....

SNL has such a variety of musical guests. i've been so surprised by many who do perform, like metallica. they have to be invited of course. i bet d.mode may play for them this coming 2006.

New Order should be on Conan instead, they're right up the alley of music that O'Brien usually has on his show.

how about they go on Letterman. at least we get that show here.

Saturday night Live is great exposure on the American front of the business.. however, would they be asked, realistically? I doubt it. The American music taste these days would opt more for Ashlee Simpson to go on the show and lip sync than to ask one of the greatest bands of all time to go on unfortunately. I remember when WFTSC was about to come out and NO played Jimmy Kimmel's show. And SNL > Jimmy Kimmel.

I like SNL and the exposure would be great for them. :thumb:

i think it would be great to see the order on SNL. maybe they should do what elvis costello did in '77: start one song, stop, then launch into another song ensuring lorne michaels banning them from the show for 15 years!

costello--the beginning of less than zero, which he said 'wasn't working,' then performing a ripping version of radio, radio.

you have also seen some of the sketches turned into films starring the original sketch members:

the blues brothers wayne's world ...for example

I think SNL would have been beautiful for them in the 90's, and while I don't much like the current lineup for the show - they might still be a glowing performer. That or the MADtv thing (which, again would have been better for them in the 90's).

The ultimate for them would probably be to stick to doing American latenight show stuff - Letterman, Ferguson, Kimmel x2, and that Carson guy. Maybe not so much Leno. I think out of that bunch Ferguson might be the best bet - at least as far as "likeable host" + "audience age" wise.

Or be really grand and pull a gig at the Apollo.

(just no Bernard rappin' or the Sandman will come for him.)

Too true sadly.

Ah yes, thanks to Malcolm and the Pistols scheduled appearance falling through. Still a great moment of TV though.

Because Malcom didn't get the right F'in visas. What a maroon. :P

Conan O' Brien would be a better fit IMO.

SNL is really creatively stagnant currently ... and I doubt that they would have New Order anyway

but would the order even bother playing SNL?

Unless they will have a smash hit in the US there are no chance for New Order to do SNL :( Like Comrade Championoff said it's not a community of good people, it's an institution. You may be one-hit wonder - but if your hit happens to be around there are more chances for your shit to show up on SNL than New Order's. :)

That's why I thought the Kimmel format perfectly fit them. As for Conan O'Brien, does he ever invite someone "famous" and popular? Maybe I'm profane, but I haven't recognized any perfomer at his recent shows.

N.O ought to be on American Chopper!

Why, nuts? 'Cause you think that the host and Hooky were separated from birth?

P.S. What is going on with this thread that I have beautifully started?

Yeah, that's weird. It's happened a few time before

Anyway, I would prefer they do one of the late-night shows like Conan or Letterman. Those are more hip venues for good music. Leno/SNL/MadTV aren't really the right fit for NO.

Saturday night live is so horrible these days, it's amazing it is still on the air. It's because of this that New Order shouldn't go anywhere near it.
