Salvation Demos

Recently surfaced. How did they stay buried for nearly 20 years?

I always thought that Barney had written the lyrics to Let's Go in 1995 when he went into the studio with Arthur Baker to 'finish' it off for the 1963 b-side. Obviously not...

Not sure they are demos, more likely to be the film music as opposed to the soundtrack recording. The vocals on Let's Go are a new twist though, excruciating in the extreme, and probably an afterthought!

By 'film music' do you mean sourced from the actual movie? If so then I wouldn't have thought so as all of the music used in the film is either incomplete and/or has dialogue over it.

Let's Go does definitely sound like the one on the film as opposed to the one on the soundtrack though, with the pronounced bass sequencer. Not hard to see why it wasn't deemed worthy of inclusion on Low Life, if that vocal performance is anything to go by!

Surfaced where? And worth getting hold of, even just for comedy value, if the comments on the Let's Go vocals are anything to go by? I have various MP3s of the Salvation stuff, but only for completism's sake, but, well, they're nothing special...

Yes, the lyrics are basically the same as the 95 version. Just to be clear, this is a version I'd never heard before - totally separate from the "Waiting for so long" vocal demo.

Really!? that is interesting, what else is on this Lost Salvation demo?

Two versions of Salvation Theme, one much longer and one shorter, an extended version of Skullcrusher and a version of TBTHOG which, I believe but haven't checked, is shorter than the soundtrack version.

EDIT coz Spotnik beat me to it, the track labelled 'Sputnik' isn't, its the short Salvation Theme.

This is very wierd - a shity 'demo' but with the 95' lyrics, not 85'??? What a surprise this lad has given us last night (i never went to bed until i'd loaded it & changed it 'over'). A strange day at work today listening to these tracks and trying to fathom out whats what. God knows what else is out there

I had the Salvation demos as an appendix to the Rarities bootleg (84-86 soundchecks). TBTHOG is about 7-8 minutes there and I never heard that version anywhere else. Let's Go on that bootleg had lines like "waiting for so long oh I've been waiting for so long..."

Strange. Very ropey demos. So they recorded 2 lyrics for LG at the same time?

This is the type of thing that should have been on Retro but er wasn't.

That torrent site isn't accepting any more members - any chance someone can email me these tracks as mp3s??

Keep trying to register with them every 10 mins or so and eventually you'll get in....I kept getting the same reply of them having their full quota of members, but within 15 mins of re-trying, I was a member.

Can someone quickly answer this for me please....I'm a total torrent div.....do you first download the .torrent file, then double-clik that file in your directory, which in turn activates you client and starts the download? Is that right? I'm using utorrent. I only ask because I've been trying to download the Salvation demos for 24 hours and it's still stuck on 0%. Or does that mean no one with the files is online at the moment? Cheers

However, these recently unearthed demos of Let's Go and TBTHOG are quite interesting as they are...er, good songs! I thought the "Nothing for me" lyrics were penned for the 1995 re-release exclusively, it's interesting to know they were there all along. It's a real shame we never got a properly mastered release of Let's Go (Waiting for so long) on Retro in 2002, that was a cracking version and a missed opportunity.

It's a question I suppose; why on earth did the band bin the various (fantastic) versions of Let's Go yet decided to churn out crap like Salvation Theme, Sputnik and Skullcrusher straight away?

Who cares - the more music the better!

BTW Murder was odd but got a full release!

All you should need to do is click the link on the dimeadozen site - and your torrent client should open and start the download.

If you're new to bittorrent, the most important thing to do is limit your upload speed. 80% seems to be about right, I have mine set to 24KBs as my maximun upload speed is 30KBs. If you run the torrent with your client uploading at maximum speed then it really kills the download speed, not only for yourself but for the rest of the 'swarm' as well.

That might be a firewall issue as well. Check out Portforward.com.

Thanks for your help Fogface, really appreciate it. It seems I was doing the right thing after all. After downloading the torrent link to my directory, I had to double-click it to get utorrent to start the download. It didn't start automatically. But I'm downloading the files now, decent speed too. Thanks for the tip on assigning up and download speeds, I'll do that.

I've always liked the lyrics for the '94 version of Let's Go on (the best of). I've heard the earlier version somewhere and it just seemed unfinished. The '94 version is much more polished.

one of Hooky's best basslines is completely stripped away in the 94 version, and the lyrics are a bit too cheesy pop for me (whatever that means)

If there was a proper recording of the vocal demo from the Low life sessions that would be the ultimate version. In fact, the instrumental is probably better but the sound quality on the mp3s of it arent great.
