Grammy Awards

Does anyone know if the band intends to show up for the Grammys this Wednesday? I have never watched the Grammys before--being the farce that they are--but would love to see our boys take home Best Dance Record (even if GIAUE isn't the best dance song on the album) and finally get some beleated recognition from the American music press.

I have to say that if I had it my way, the band would not show up for the ceremony (which would the be classic New Order "we don't give a crap" style)...they win...and then Gwen accepts the award on their behalf

I don't know. Maybe if one or two went? I certainly don't want a full turnout.

Maybe they think its too far to go for 1 awards ceremony they probably won't win?

My pop culture friend at work is sure that award is not aired, so dont be shocked if you dont see it. But I say no they wont show.

the award for their catagory is never shown. it's going to be scrolled across the screen going to commercial. the dance category is one of the most meaningless awards given on the entire show that is filled with meaningless awards. New Order would be fools to even consider showing up.

In that case I really hope they don't go.

if they win then they can stick a sticker that claims in large letters that New Order is a Grammy winning artist! "Grammy Winning ex- Joy Division members current band"! ...move some units...

Yeah, the word I hear is that LCD Soundsystem is the heavy favorite...but never underestimate the "we should have given you guys this award 19 years ago for True Faith, so now we're making up for it" sentimental pick :)

Plus, I think there are several artists in the crowd tonight (Chemical Brothers, Kylie, The Killers, U2, etc.) who would love to see them win.

i think the last time i watched the grammys was in 1988, when i thought U2 were the greatest men to walk the earth and they won almost every award--even classical and spoken word, i believe.

now i have no idea who half of the acts up for awards even are--except for mariah carey, who wins all the awards now. i think she's fit to win best comedy album.

I think NO have a good chance of winning. Have to admit, thier track is the only one out of the list I've actually heard but that's beside the point. The awards don't go to who deserves it, but who ought to win. And the general feeling towards NO now, with many of todays hot bands citing them as an influence, the 24-Hour Party People movie, etc it's obvious that they should've had some recognition frikkin' AGES ago. So this is their chance to give them some token respect.

The reason they haven't so far is that the Academy has a really conservative concept of what constitutes 'musicianship' - it's about being the most popular and/or being able to do lots of noodle-y solos and hit super-high notes and other geeky displays of technical knowhow, things normal people can't do - eg Mariah Carey and 50 Cent being nominated for major awards. Or maybe it's not even that pre-meditated, it could be just members of the Academy thinking 'oh shit, I've got to get that ballot in today, hm let's see, I've heard of these guys, check, those guys are selling lots so they must be alright, check...'

The punk scene that JD/NO came from, the idea that it's not how you play, but what you play, flies in the face of everything the Academy stands for.

I honestly don't care if they win or not, though my bet for album of the year will go to Gwen Stefani, the perception is that it's 'her year'.

As I've said before, The Grammies are utterly ludicrous.

Yep, Chemical Brothers took best dance track and best dance album. Not so bad, one of the only grammy winners ever that I actually like.

The list of winners so far reads like a checklist of all that is mediocre and shit in the world of music.

Nothing to get too bothered about. The list of winners in the dance category over the years includes the likes of the Baha Men and Britney.

The Chems have scooped a few over the years. They're probably just a bit embarrassed about it.

Please don't take my previous comment literally. I meant that the Grammy's are so focused on talents that are not "great" (in my opinion). I'm glad that the Chemical Brothers won; the group was my second guess on the Best Dance Recording Award. It's a bit ironic since I have been listening to Out of Control as much as I have listened to GIAUE.

To see Paul McCartney on stage singing "Yesterday"- a tribute to Correta Scott King- with Jay Z and some other guy was a horrible scene. The other guy and Paul were singing a duet with Jay Z blurting out crap; it was an odd and unsettling sight.

Looks like Kelly Clarkson is sweeping up the awards beating the other notable singers like Gwen, Mariah, Sheryl Crow, and whoever is out there, if anyone cares.

Ludicrous was not nominated but his lp is much better than Kayne West.
