bands like New Order

From a New Order fan in the states: I love New Order's music and have been enjoying there most recent CD's to a max. So, I was wondering if anyone could point me to some current bands that have similiar styles and music as New Order. I will check out their side projects, but I'm also interested in other/newer bands as well. What are some of your favorites? Thanks.

Kraftwerk and Giorgio Moroder influenced NO with tech gear and they still exist after 30+ years

Not a recent group, but Brisbane band "Boxcar" were very New Orderish, especially there debut single "Freemason [You Broke The Promise]".

Had a minor hit in the U.S with Gas Stop [Who Do You Think You Are]. Early 90's.

Robert Racic who remixed NO's Paradise produced their two albums.

Dexys Midnight Runers. "Come on Eileen" just as good as Blue Monday any day

The Chemical Brothers are big New Order fans. I think (their track) Star Guitars is pure New Order.

If you're willing to seek out more obscure stuff, the newest LP from The Legends, Public Radio, sounds a lot like New Order, and a little like The Cure (maybe it's just the Martin Hannett-ish production). Very sparse, but quite poppy. The CD artwork is even fake Peter Saville.

I think there are some MP3s and samples here on the Labrador website.

The Beloved and Paris Angels were both influenced (heavily it seems) by New Order.

The Pet Shop Boys and New Order share a lot of similarities when you look at NO's more electronic/dance tracks.

Disaffected vocals, similar keyboard sound patches, and Neil Tennant said that when he first heard Blue Monday he wanted to cry as it was exactly the song that he had wanted to write. As well the bass line of "West End Girls" has a very New Order 1980's dance sound/vibe to it.

The Cure's "In Between Days" has always sounded a bit like a New Order rip-off to me and on the slightly more obscure side Trisomie 21 has some very Peter Hook bass lines.

All Music Guide lists the following as "similar artists", all of which I'd perfer over any of these new pompous "indie rock" groups any day of the week. Yeah, funny how they are all "indie", yet are on MTV nonstop and their albums can be found in any local Walmart. In fact, I even saw The Killers in some McDonalds commerical. Maybe they were giving out albums in Happy Meals or something. But then again, New Order did do Sunkist...

Chemical Brothers are kind of NO 2nd generation. They are responsible for NO's greatest song in the last ten years (HTS) and if NO couldn't grab the dance song Grammy I'm happy for Chemical Brothers.

..."I never promised you a rose garden". Yeah that was a bizarre re-working of the old country song in a sort of new order stylee. I knew this version before I ever heard the original country version by Lynn Amderson (I think).

My recommendation; Primal Scream: Exterminator (or XTRMNTR as the sleeve said). Features Barney colloborating on "Shoot Speed Kill Light". And in fact if you listen to the Duane Eddy-ish guitar riff towards the end of the track, you will find that the exact same riff pops up on New Orders Rock the Shack. So either this was Barney's element of the Primals song, or he was so impressed with it he decided to nick it to use on the next New Order LP (at the time). The Primals song is the better one! XTRMNTR also features production from the Chemical Brothers (Swastika Eyes) already manetioned in this thread. And of course Barney guested on the Chemicals "Out of Control", just to complete the triangle (along with the Chems production of Here To Stay).

The Legends. and Acid House Kings. seem to smooth edges the way the Smiths and Stone Roses do.
