Heard on the album and thought..pah!

That day at Reading. Sunny day, head full of magic stuff. It blew me away.

Loved it with a passion ever since.

Definately "Temptation". Especially around the verse "And I've never seen anyone quite like you before No, I've never met anyone quite like you before" Hooke's bass line and Bernard's vocals are so great on this.

lonesome tonight. its a great song. everytime i play it i think to myslelf that i should really play it more often. one of those thrown away b-sides that could have easily been a single in its own right. i do also like the bit where Barney clears his throat.

I mean a NO song that is generally thought of as shite, but has a special meaning for yourself?

If the Happy One counts as obscure, then that'd be mine. Band may hate it, but I love it. It makes me happy. Can't be sad hearing it. Jangles me up. Great wake up music.

Well, I like Dream Attack but a lot of people think it's a load of cr*p, particularly the lyrics.

To name one, it's 1963 and a host of others- and I'm not sure it would even be considered obscure. At any rate, I like it because of the lyrics, one of the most powerfully written NO song.

i've always really liked "Turn the Heater On" ... a unique New Order song, seems like many have a very poor opinion of it.
actually i like all the of the second Peel session, especially that version of "586"

I also like the Hardfloor Chicago acid house by way of Germany remix version of Blue Monday

Dream Attack is my favorite NO song period.

OK, I didn't read the post clearly. Agreed on your comment of Temptation.

If you are talking about special meaning to me, where the lyrics just speak to you at that time in place, it would have to be "Love Vigilantes" (I know it's not obscure), but hear me out.

Those lyrics spoke to me while I was in Iraq, as I felt very much like Bernard's charactor in the song. Those were my emotions to the T. Plus I liked the way the ending of the song is open ended; you never really know if the message to his wife is a mistake or if he really died and doesn't realize it until his spirit is hovering over his wife reading the message. I felt similar as my coming home felt open-ended as you never really know if you are coming back with mortars/rockets exploding around you and bullets wizzing past your head. As an added bonus, "Land of the sun", I thought of as Iraq as the sun definately owns that area with 145F weather.

Hope this fits the ticket of this question a little better (though I know it's not obscure).

The lyrics to Dream Attack are perfectly suited to the music. That's a beautiful song. It captures toeing the line between desire and need, a common theme for Bernard, but a masterstroke on this song and the whole of Technique, really.

But my favorite 'obscure' NO track is probably "Cries and Whispers". Obviously most people into New Order have heard it, but it seems to be a forgotten one.

They should name a song "The Forgotten One" and just re-write "Cries and Whispers". That's actually the problem with WFTSC: there's no singing iceberg moment.

Lonesome Tonight - can't believe it was only a b-side, really powerful/emotional, good, simple song, beuatifully done...

Everyone Everywhere - often overlooked after such a strong set of songs before it on Republic

Denial - love the keyboard line in the middle, very aggressive - always makes me wonder if I could imagine JD ding this one - along with Ceremony and IALP the link between JD and NO for me...

Homage (!) :) - would have been intersting to hear a properly recorded version...

I like Hurt too. Refreshingly invigorating every time I hear it. I will be 90 and will still shake my booty to that one.

Soundtrack- calming. Love pottering around the place to this. Even my wife likes this one.

Oh and Blue Monday. because of its wonderful inventive rousing disco beat.

It's not likely that we're gonna mention a track that someone's gonna pipe up, Oooh, I forgot about that one, how does that go, which album was that on?!

Although I did list some fave songs on alt.music.themightyorder once and a regular post was shocked to see Lonesome Tonight was one of me faves claiming no-one he knew liked it. I just thought, muppet, you can't know many people, can you?!
