Bit of a take on the earlier age-check theme, but how old were you when you first saw the Order?

A work colleague of mine was at the same Brighton Centre gig as me, many moons ago, but as I was fast approaching a v.mature 18 and had a handful of Order shows under me belt, he was but 14 years old, and the Order were indeed his first ever gig.

I'll set the ball rolling - I was 17 and 5 months when I first saw the Order live.

Anyone else?

(Yes, it's Friday afternoon, and I am bored sh*te-less in The Office counting down the mins to the pub).

I was 17 and 1 month at Wembley Arena October 1987 (I think) when they opened with Touched by The Hand of God. Awesome.

Never forget it how the rush of fans jumped the barriers into the standing area and how security couldn't cope. A great night.

I was a wee bit over 18...1987...thanks to my dear old dad...this was back before he bacame a miserable twat...he tried to give me some Van Halen tickets that same year if I'm not mistaken...unfortunately, I turned those down!!!!

see what booze and drugs will do to your memory?!?!?! this was supposed to be my first gig..but I didn't make it to the show...my father, and his daughter, my half-sister, the one that introduced me to new order, were living in LA in 1987...the rat bastard got tickets to the gig at the Forum...and I was all set to go, when I decided to go and injure myself severely enough that I could not get on an airplane...

my faulty circuitry in my brain sometimes forgets that I did not make it to this show...

hell...for the longest time, I had the dates mixed up for the first two times I really did see the order live...

for some reason I was thinking that when I finally did get around to seeing them in 89...the order of the gigs was Dallas, then Houston...but it was the other way around...

who says that ecstasy is bad for the memory??? I might just be living frigging proof....

I was 31 years and 15 days when I saw them last year at Brixton Academy. That´s the price I’ve payed for being a twat and not going to 1988 concerts in Brazil when I was 18.

I was 19 when i had my first live NO experiance, i saw them at Reading festival in '93 My mates who i went with thought i was a bit crazy spending the 60 odd quid for the weekend just to essentially see the one band!! - the fact is i didnt give a toss about anyone else that was playing that wkd to be honest :)

I was about 1 month short of my 15th birthday, when I saw them in Glasgow with a mate. I don't think it was at the Eggy Toll Plaza though as stated on this site, i'm sure it was in the city somewhere. :smoking:

18 years and 4 months to be precise...twas Reading '93. :drummer: My highlight: 'Dream Attack' - It's a shame that track never was played by Radio 1 when they aired it a few days later. Such is life.

Aged 14 - Middlesbrough Rock Garden on their first "Movement" tour (1981) -I snuck in with some of my older mates who were well into them at the time - I was just a wee little scrag-end then, into 2-Tone and Oi! music!! By the way, I'm sure I've seen exactly the same thread question posted by someone else a month ago - who else here has got déja vu about this one??

23 in Aug.85, Oakland CA. First time around this area that I was actually able to attend. Would've loved to have seen them earlier, but no such luck. Well worth the 12-hour drive for sure.

We got there late took a wrong 'un coming out of Great Malvern station - they were already nearly 3/4 the way thru Disorder. I spent the first x years of my JD/NO consciousness thinking that it was the 2nd song - turns out it had been the opener after all. Sound was pretty ropey and very loud (for novice ears). I was, I have to admit, very disappointed, as the keyboards sounded shit and I hadn't got a clue what half the songs were. I had no idea about the Curtis dance in those days - never really read any press cuttings, owned Unknown Pleasures but wouldn't have said at the time that they were evenly remotely significant to me, it was just a chance for something different with my mates other than hanging round the cricket club. It was a bit unsettling, as I didn't really know what was going on. It seemed to last for ages though, as there was this huge chunk of songs I'd never heard before in the middle of the set, I knew Disorder, Wilderness, Interzone and She's Lost Control, but had no idea about the others. Songs you don't know always last a long time ! The jam thing (can't honestly remember if it was an encore or not) basically had other people on stage (turns out they were Section 25), and it was just a noise with no semblance of a song. We stood over in front of Barney at the back, no idea how many were there, nowhere near as many as when New Order played there. I'd seen Black Sabbath before that, as my only other gig (same mates), and have to say that I had enjoyed that more than JD ! Says that, then realises he hadn't even enjoyed a New Order gig till 84 !!

I was 17 years and 11 months when I first saw them at The Ace Brixton in 1983, the Ace no longer exists as the Ace, not sure if it was demolished or changed its name.I also saw Depeche Mode,Fad Gadget and The Wake there before it closed its doors in 1984.

I was 14 when I saw them at Tiffany's in Glasgow in 1983, supported by The Wake - from what I remember Barney was half-drunk and Hookey wanted to fight with someone from the audience who was spitting at him.

23 and a bit at Reading 98. Would've seen them at Reading 93 but couldn't bloody make it and typically the buggers took their sabbatical right afterwards. Still, great gig whisch was well worth waiting for.

eighteen, and it was the first ever concert by New Order in Berlin, Germany. Quite a psychedelic experience, lights very low (guess they didn't change the Ian Curtis epilepsy precaution) and nobody knew any songs. My only New Order to date. (NO didn`t like to play Berlin)

17 and at the afformentioned Brixton Ace.

"LET'S GO DISCO BARNEY!"

What a great venue but obviously the owner came to a financial crossroads and needed the cash.

I also saw Urban Shakedown, Youth's band Brilliant and the original line up of the Sisters of Mercy there too.

There used to be loads of small venues like that all over the capital and probably more imporantly bands actually played them rather than simply coining it in at the larger places.

NO 1984 at Heaven was one of the best. And guess what, I may have even sold you a poster.

Brixton Ace, X-mas 83' went with a few older fans and my mate.I think it was the start of my love/hate affair with booze....and arguing with my mate over who done 'love-reaction' I consider myself quite lucky as i always seemed to see the 'right' bands at the right times. I loved the 80's. P.S. I was 14 years old at the time... a very pissed 14.

Preston was my first gig at the tender age of 18 and mighty fine it was to. My first was meant to be Blackburn earlier in the year but had to give my ticket away to best mate who didn't even like NO 'cos my mum and dad offered me the chance to go on a skiing holiday instead. Thinking back, i should have gone to the gig instead.

21, when they come to Toronto (or NYC) in 2004 and play the best concert I've ever gone to in my life.

Hey, never hurts to hope, right?

15 years old at the Logan Campbell Centre, Auckland, NZ in 1985 (Love Juice gig). One and a half weeks after surgery to remove rotten tonsils and having my nose drilled out. Fortunately mine does not now look like Michael Jacksons.

Biggest up - hearing NO were to tour NZ in 1985. Biggest down - finding out I was having surgery in the same month. Determination: kill if necessary to get to the gig.

Was this the gig where Barney says "you are a miserable bunch of fucking bastards...we are never coming back to Germany again" or something along those lines? I have it on tape somewhere.

What did you do to piss him off and were you personally responsible?

That was the 84 gig where he said that - they'd played there in 1981 as well (not to mention a JD gig)

Logan Concrete Centre - what a fucking hole with crap sound. I was there too. And also at the much better 1981 or 82 show at Mainstreet as a 20-something (showing my age here). There was also the 87-ish gig at that place at the top of Symonds Street, whatever it was called - the Galaxy? Something like that, can't remember exactly (showing my age again).

3 days before my 18th birthday at Royal Festival Hall in 1984.

I was at the Brighton Centre show in 86 if that's the one Al referred to. There was a bin near the exit with all the tickets in them - I grabbed a handful and got number 3 (I think) - yep, sad isn't it?

By the way, I didn't mean I hired out the Festival Hall for my birthday - honestly, grammar standards is sloppy isn't they?!!!
