This looks pretty fucking good. Foreword by Wilson, and what I'm assuming is a complete round up of all Factory objects d'art.

It's almost like Wilson's had a look in my wallet and decided I needed to be a little lighter monetarily. I'll have to flip through it at the shop before just blindly ordering this. You gotta earn my money, boy! :laugh:

I used to have a couple of books in the late 80s but sold them to my mate

An Ideal for Living was one of them and I vaguely remember a couple more. Can anyone help me out, or make further suggestions to the reading list

Touching From A Distance (certainly) and Torn Apart (from what I've heard) are pretty essential reading on Ian Curtis/JD... The An Ideal For Living book was bizarre - all these pretentious quotes and random ramblings at the end of each chapter...

There are other worthwhile books on JD as well, of which many are now out of print. Brian Edge's "Pleasures and Wayward Distractions" was good if occasionally inaccurate, as was Mike West's "Joy Division". The late Neil Woodvine wrote an excellent book, and Craig Wood/Clinton Heylin's "Form And Substance" is well worth a read, and still available.

Of the big three though, An Ideal For Living is now hard to get, but for a while was unputdownable, it certainly filled in a load of gaps for me, even if it created many more questions than it answered. Touching From A Distance was a disappointment to me at the time and remains so, it's such a pity that Deborah Curtis wasn't able to give anything remotely like a balanced viewpoint. All she achieved was to demonstrate that she really wasn't in the picture for a very long time, and that the marriage really was dead a long time before her husband! Torn Apart is excellent, highly recommended, and a real eye-opener. Challenging many of Deborah's assertions in a nice way, it is a really good read. I've learned more in the last week since I got a copy than at any stage between the mid 80s and 2005 (the discovery of the Rob Gretton lock-up stash notwithstanding). Buy it!

On a book-related subject, Mick Middles and Lindsay Reade signed copies of "Torn Apart: The Life Of Ian Curtis" at Waterstones, Deansgate, Manchester today from 12:30pm.
