Right once again. Crystal. Who's dead ?

My mistake, he's not dead... I need to read properly next time.

From Kinoteca:

Through Carax's then, now sadly late, cameraman, Jean-Yves Escoffier (“Gumma”), I emailed Leos. I arranged to have a cassette of the music sent to him, and I waited. Not too long after he wrote and directed me to a web site. Here I found a home-made video Leos had constructed starring his dog and his cat. It was amusing as well as making fun of the video format. Leos wrote that “the video will cost you nothing, but my fee will be large.”

Doesn't that quote imply that the cameraman Escoffier is dead, not Carax?

Exactly... I thought it was Carax, but after checking, it wasn't the case.

Well, we've now three different videos for the same song!

I've just watched the Tokyo and New York versions (having seen the Vienna version before). Here's my two penn'orth for what it's worth:

Vienna version: bits of old films edited together with a loose narrative. As a promo vid for telly, I'd say it would do an adequate job. The band aren't in it.

NY version: Basically a bloke doing experiments in a laboratory. Pretty pictures with lasers and whatnot. No real narrative. No band present. Rather dull.

Tokyo version: A bloke seen on the underground and walking about. He even lip-syncs to the song whilst driving. Various other Tokyo folk also mime badly to the track. A bit more going on that the other two versions, this gets my nod if Turn ever gets the single release it was supposed to have ages ago. Band not present here either.

Should the single ever get released, do we get to vote on what vid should accompany it? My vote goes to the Tokyo one.

Kentucky wins it.

"jude law" loses it, especially with the lame screen name.

Run and Confusion were excellent videos though.

but Shamberg's recent work on his site is pretty weak. hard to reconcile that with him producing earlier new order videos.....

perhaps it should be shown to all beginning film students, THIS is what directing is about, and THIS is what producing is about, and THIS is what happens when you edit your own work...

blech.

I haven't seen the Tokyo version, but the NYC version reminded me of chemistry class...:read:

I like the song, nonetheless.
