Disclaimer: Yes, I'm serious, and no, it's not out of disrespect or any doubt about the quality of the finalists. It's really just a reflection on the ratio of the work the producers have put in to the fun had. Music should not be a goddamn job (unless you're raking it in). And, speaking from experience, wiping tracks is very therapeutic.

And personal to Bob: I would so love to hear more Acoustic Division. Your recordings both sound like live takes to a single mic -- which I respect, but it would be so much fun to take your exquisite guitar playing and your daughter's voice and really mix them properly, add some reverb, etc. I'm thrilled at the releationship you have with your daughter and hope you always (1) encourage her and (2) keep her away from that Charlotte Church ... she's trouble.

Dunno what they put in the water in Stoke (well actually I do, it makes it salty), but Ultraviolence is one of my favourite NO songs, which is why we covered it! It's our version that doesn't really cut it, there's not enough vibrancy and bounce to it. That's what I think anyway, and dozens of you obviously agreed!

But we did have this discussion before, after the first Community became a similar source of dissatisfaction, and we were led to believe by the organisers that this would not be the case this time, that only existing members would be eligible to participate. That got forgotten by the organisers when the competition began (despite protests), instead they decided that you had to be a member before x day to vote, something of a cop-out. As it happened, well over half the contestants joined the site specifically to participate!

Nice, fun point there. But the true spirit of those gig meets has been captured many times - and those cds get copied many many times and cherished by all of us.

We even had a DVD out last year (one of my most treasured possessions).

At the end of the day there shouldn't be any pre-requisites whatsoever for a project like this. ANYONE at all should be able to enter this, whether they postly regularly, or have never even visited the site.

My initial issue, if we go back to page one, is that the people on the final cut didn't seem representative of the folks on this site. And I was disappointed for people who've genuinely made an effort here over the years (not just by posting but gigging, like Digital and Re-Order) not making the grade.

no liam, what you have to be very pissed for is : nicking setlists and launching yourself at the stage, not realising there is a height difference between the floor and stage, then falling over the monitors, flattening the mic stand and then singing almost unintelligibly along to a line and a half before retreating to the shadows of near obscurity. I have audio evidence if you'd like a copy...

Look, the votes show what the majority feels are the best tracks. I don't agree with some, and I'm blown away that Labster didn't get EITHER of his amazing tracks on the CD (along with Horse In Retirement and Republicans). But the final product is what the majority of us wanted. The ones sitting here bickering are hardly that. Just deal with it. Buy the CD or don't; it's your call.
