Get Ready (Beta) vs. Get Ready 2.0

In June of 2001 a good friend who was a writer for Billboard sent me an unmarked package. I squealed when I opened it, as it contained the advance promo copy of Get Ready he'd been supplied by Warner Bros. (with his name stamped on it). The album's final track listing hadn't been confirmed yet, so the CD-R contained the following:

01 Crystal 02 60 MPH 03 Turn My Way 04 Vicious Streak 05 Nothing's Gonna Change (became Close Range) 06 Someone Like You 07 Run This River Dry (became Sabotage) 08 Player In The League 09 Primitive Notion 10 Slow Jam 11 Run Wild (Steve Osbourne's original mix)

I got really used to listening to this particular running order, so I was disappointed when the album finally dropped. I'm sure it's been talked to death in this forum, but I didn't want a rock record from New Order after such a long absence - I wanted a lot of electronics....or at least 50/50.

Over the past couple of days I've been listening to all the LPs in chronological order while working, and I still find it jarring when Get Ready pops up. At the time I put together my own version of the album including tracks from some of the side projects, but if I was given the opportunity to completely redo the album to bring it more in line with the others, I think I'd have to go with this:

Side One: 01 Here To Stay (Full Length Vocal Mix) 02 Close Range 03 60 MPH 04 Vicious Streak 05 Primitive Notion

Side Two: 06 Crystal 07 Someone Like You 08 Player In The League 09 Sabotage 10 Run Wild (Steve Osbourne's original mix)

I'd also have released singles in the following order:

01 Here To Stay/Slow Jam 02 Crystal/Turn My Way 03 Someone Like You/60 MPH (double A-side)

Rock The Shack and Behind Closed Doors wouldn't have seen the light of day.

Osbourne's Run Wild has the edge over the album version

So the promo copy was more electronic and less rock-y than the final product? Too bad. I agree, I'd rather have had more electronics. Oh well. Barney et. al. didn't ask me for my opinion.

I prefer NO's mix of Run Wild to the original, but it's too bad that Get Ready swapped out Sabotage for Rock the Shack.

60 MPH could actually be a listenable song (for me) if it was changed to, say, 90 MPH. It's good musically, but very hard for me to take seriously. 60 MPH hasn't been fast since the 1940's.

Where might I hear this 2nd version?

A cheetah's maximum speed is 60mph, think about that.

Totally agree that Get Ready could have been so much better. Some great songs/versions of songs left off.

Here To Stay and Player in the League should have definitely been on Get Ready.
