Hi everyone,
I live in the U.S. and a few times now I have had the TV on and I swore I heard NewOrder or Peter Hook playing on the television. When I looked up to see what is was...it was a Saab commercial. I have never heard the song before but is distinctly sounds like Peter Hook is playing.
Has anyone else seen this SAAB commercial? It definitely sounds like NewOrder...even if it not NewOrder, I would be interested in finding out who that artist/group is.

Yes, I thought the same thing when I first saw the commercial. It's got that distinctive "Hooky" sound to it. Wonder if there's any info on the Saab website?
I checked the website and sent an email to public relations regarding the name of the band who composed that song. It totally sounds "Hook-esque"
Next time, people, when you see that commercial. Pay attention to the music. It sounds just like NewOrder.
I've heard it several times, and it certainly sounds NewOrdery. Any responses from Saab yet?
I have yet to see this commercial, but as I have a whole week off to reconnect with my favorite programs I will definitely keep my ears peeled. Any info on what exactly appears in the ad? that would help if I knew to look for it, being deaf and all :D
If it is not NewOrder and/or Peter Hook...it is a pretty good rip off of his style. Hook's style is so unique that I doubt it is someone else. No one else, that I know, plays their bass like it is a guitar????

Hey everyone, Here is a copy of what Saab replied with. I am a little suspect of their detective work. I cannot believe that they would not know who the individual is who wrote the song. They also refer to a "singer"...for which there is no singing involved. Very curious in my opinion, and I would recommend all NewOrder fans to get to the bottom of this!!!

Thank you for your interest in Saab's new commercial. The artist in the commercial is a studio singer hired for that particular spot we did. To our knowledge, they do not have a CD out or any other recordings.
Unfortunately, we have not been able to obtain the name of the artist or the song. We do know that the song is an original piece of music written specifically for that TV spot and it is only about 30 seconds in length.

I heard it last night and before I looked up to see what commercial it was, I was thinking "1979" by Smashing Pumpkins + hooky stlye bass. Not that New Order sounding apart from the bass to my ears but i've only heard it once. It's shocking they don't even know the name of the composer.
Are you sure about that?
It is closer to JD or Neworder, than it is to the cure, in my opinion.

Hello Seb! Good luck to the Expos in what promises to be an interesting baseball season. One of my best friends is a Red Sox fan, and Mike Thurman, one of his teammates from college, signed with the Yankees!!! Oh, you should have heard the cursing that day.

Yep, I live in Quebec... but we do get most of the commercials playing in the States, and unless that SAAB being advertised is not available in Canada, then I assume the commercial is being played here as well.

I think the Red Sox had enough ex-Expos on their team as it is! I'm sorry the Expos gave up on Mike Thurman -- I liked him, and I think he was on the verge of breaking through. On the other hand, it's a pretty good thing he got signed by the Yankees (going from the Expos to the Yankees must be a tremendous change to be honest). The down side may be that, playing for such a strong team, he might not get a real chance.
