Maybe it's memories of Italia '90 (oh how I wish we could make the semis this year) but from a perfectly artistic point of view I have to say "World in Motion". When art and commercialism made perfect harmony perfectly.

And may I add 1990 was when us Manc/Brit NO fans of a certain age (approx 25-15 years) found music utopia with Madchester/heatwave summer/World Cup glory/shagging nubile teenage girls impressed by NO. Or maybe that was just me?

I participated in the second summer of love in '89, but have to say 1990 was even better!

Nah, all of them... Wonderful, simple and striking - everything a sleeve should be... Honourable mentions too to the True Faith Remix and Temptation 12"...

Blue Monday - the original cutout version - just because of the cost. Nice one Saville.

Any of the early Italian-inspired futurist stuff Saville concocted - Egg, Movement etc. Had a nice austerity that suited the band at the time. Blue Monday and temptation were excellent too. Don't like much of the later, less abstract stuff from 1989 on.

Brotherhood Shellshock (12") State of the Nation Bizarre Love Triangle.

As a set I think these work really well, But any of the covers with no mention of the band or song title are classic!

Torn between Ceremony, Procession and True Faith

Run 2 for me - a true classic of design. I have always intended to get the True Faith leaf tattooed somewhere though (and Vikings are soooo last week).

I offer you the following from the new book “Factory Records, The Complete Graphic Album”:

'World in Motion' was the official theme song of the English football team for the 1990 FIFA World Cup, and as such was the first significant mainstream commercial success for the band. PSA developed an iconic sleeve that symbolised football as the world's game by redefining the continents of the globe as the hexagonal panels of a football. The designers were shocked that it had not been done before, despite it's striking simplicity, and soon realised that the motif could transcend it's original commission and have real potential in the burgeoning sports merchandise market. However, disagreements between Factory and the designers over the copyright meant that it never went any further than small-scale promotional merchandise for the single.

always loved true faith's cover

but the common black 'blue monday' with the colored thingies was so freaking effective. nothing like that song in 83, and nothing like the artwork....forever ingrained in so many minds..

Murder Benelux 12" True Faith & True Faith-94 Spooky 12" and the Z-pack CDS Ruined In A Day UK 12"

Worst sleeves would probably be the Get Ready era (except Here To Stay).

Round & Round - really vivid and cool. I remember buying it thinking the cover was wicked, then seeing the bright orange inner sleeve, which was dead striking compared to the cover. Plus, I love the fonts from the Technique era. Ahh, the memories of buying NO 12" vinyl...

Also True Faith - Aside from Blue Monday, surely the most iconic? I remember seeing the actual leaf at the Saville show at the Design Centre a couple of years back. Wonder how much that would go for on ebay? Might wait until Autumn and find a leaf to sell...
