When are New Order going to stop playing joy division songs live?

when are they gonna stop playing live altogether? I love the gigs but dont wanna see them turning into the fcukin rolling stones.
Hooky's gonna have to climb up a tree looking for coconuts and fall on his head, requiring brain surgery in order for them to start looking like the Stones.
I'll never get tired of them playing live. 
I don't recall anybody forcing anyone to go to gigs or listen to live recordings. You could always stick your fingers in your ears (or any other orifice you choose) if at a gig, or make your own JD free live CDs. Howabout starting your own website that pretends they all retired why still young and pretty?

let me just say that everytime they play JD songs I get a wee choked up. And besides the emotional charge, I think they sound fantastic. Barny ain't Ian and he should'nt be trying to sound like him. If you like Barney's voice singing regret, there is no reason for you not to like it when he sings transmission.
I put it to a friend, who is a huge U2 fan, like this: Imagine Bono had died in 1986, the band went on, and twenty years later, the Edge stared singing some of the classics. Would'nt that strike a chord inside of you?
oh, and I thought Digital at Finsbury was outstanding. They were having fun with it, just like JD did back in the day.

russie. Who the fcuk are you to ask such a question!! JD are new order this is what they were and part of who they are. It's there songs and all of us here like the band as a whole. So why don't you just stop asking silly questions
Those songs are part of their identify, so why should they stop? Personally, if it was up to me, i wish they would expand the set list so they could reintroduced neglected No songs. That would be nice. That being said, i think the current set list is better than it has been in years.
Plus, they have put back The Perfect Kiss in the line-up, and trust me, this is to please the fans, not them!
So they are trying to have fun out there, and in mid-life crisis, you go back to your roots 
Dont get me wrong Greg or any fan i love Joy Division But i think New Order are the greatest band ever so i want to hear New Order songs. Having grown up with Joy Division and New Order i know the history.
In the recent gigs I've been to, the JD songs have been the set highlights.
It's been fascinating to see which JD song they will resurrect next. I'm hoping for 'These Days' or 'Novelty' next.
If they played Decades, even I might start to blub. Haven't heard them play that for 25 years!
I love it when they play JD songs. Just as good as the New Order stuff and a refreshing change from the things we hear on the radio every day. The times have gone where I truly thought that you could 'dance to the radio' especially when it was turned on...

Exactly.
I remember the Reading Festival 'comeback' and hearing 'Heart & Soul' etc. and just about avoiding tears. As mentioned above, I'd like to hear them do 'Decades' again [only heard the RFH tape] but it may just push me over the edge...

and a more imaginative setlist of New Order classics if I remember, the lad's inability to move beyond True Faith, TBTHOG, Temptation and Blue Fucking Monday are the main reason we need to hear the Joy Division material. After all how many runouts have 'Means to An End' [yeah - nice one Rasputin - nearly forgot about that one], 'Decades','Twenty Four Hours' etc had since they were written [Please don't answer this stat heads - it's a rhetorical question] Let's hear somemore back catalogue - 'Round & Round','Here to Stay', 'World', 'EGG','Dreams Never End','Leave Me Alone', 'Subculture'. Then we're all happy!
I love the Joy Division stuff on record but tracks like Atmosphere and LWTUA by New Order have lost a bit of their spark live. The only two JD songs I really thought they did justice to live were Isolation and Transmission, the rest I can take or leave.
Part of the problem with the band indulging themselves in the old JD numbers is that there's precious little talk of new material on the horizon. Seemingly bugger all excitement over "we've just written this new tune and can't wait to get it out on the road" but just Atmosphere for the 500th time 
That worries me a bit as I'd like another album out of them please :D
Ideally, I'd like to see the number of JD songs on the setlist cut back to two or three at the absolute most (Transmish, LWTUA, Isolation) and the rest of the setlist freed up for numbers from Technique, PC&L and more recent stuff like Primitive Notion. I think the reason Hooky gave in Tim's Greece interview was that new fans won't know the album tracks but let's face it, at NO gigs they're preaching to the converted! Your average audience member will know most of the albums surely??

I really don't like the version of LWTUA they've been playing of late. Why do they have to play it in a different key? I'd chose any JD stuff over hearing Blue Monday again but I do wish they'd concentrate on bringing back some NO classics.
I know 'its difficult because that bloke has to get the master tapes and do all the programming etc, etc,' but if he spent a month or so on it they could play a different setlist each gig. Just get him to program a few oldies so they could pick a few to play each night. Why the hell not?!
Just my opinion on the matter...
To say New Order should not play Joy Division songs because JD ended with Mr. Curtis is to give too little credit to the other three JDs. What is NO but JD's instrumentalists/cosongwriters plus Gillian or Phil? NO is JD; they just appear to be a different band because Ian was so powerful, the band changed dramatically from '81 onward, and they initially refused to play JD songs. They're the same band; they just (wisely) pushed on and did different things. They're perfectly entitled to play JD songs, because along with Ian they (three of them, at least) wrote them, recorded them, and performed them.
Whether they play them well is a different matter...

I sort of got the impression that while Hooky had suggested to the band that they might like to do more NO stuff this time around, and cut some of the JD numbers, they were finding it impossible to leave them out! I suspect that what we may see is fewer JD numbers, and some of them on rotation, rather than being binned altogether. I should have asked a follow-up question about which NO numbers we may see if things go to plan, but of course it's a lot easier in hindsight! There is of course also this huge difference between a festival audience, who are there for the day out, and an NO gig such as those we will be getting in October, where everyone is there for NO. Hopefully the band will recognise this and tailor their offerings accordingly.
Well, at least they've come full circle. Early on fans were aching to hear the JD numbers and now (some) are begging them to stop. I guess just like the rest of their career, they're better off sort of stradding the line on this one with maybe just the occasional or rotating JD classic. Either way, any band or artist is best served doing what they feel comfortable with, so I'm sure they'll continue to chug along doing nice shows for nice people.
