Am I the only one ...

I heard everything in sequence (well except some early Joy Division singles), maybe thats why to me, they are one... with an element clearly missing from New Order, but whether that means the glass is half empty or half full is endlessly debateable. Maybe it's more difficult to get into JD if you became used to New Order first, or didn't even find out about JD til much later? but JD is just "the dark side of the moon" there is no conflict. oh well enough cliches for now...

Well put--I've always seen them as one. I found NO first, but always saw them as a natural progression--I like NO because they are what remains of JD, and I like JD because they evolved into NO. Two sides of the same coin may be a good analogy.

I love Atmosphere, Transmission - all the more poppy ones I guess - but find most JD songs hard to like, maybe because they only seem to have one emotion (ie general gloom) whereas NO put so many different emotions into their songs it makes them, for me, much more interesting. I've also never seen what all the fuss is about with Ian's lyrics (although I love his voice). I much prefer Barney's. Half the time you can't hear what Ian's on about anyway.
