I have hated watching New Order the last couple times

Back in 2001, I didn't bother with Liverpool and all those, I only did the one Brixton, and that was a last minute decision. Reason being that I had become so disillusioned with it all, having not seen them since 89 at Birmingham NEC, and when they were on TV doing Crystal it just made me feel quite sad, the "having to bring in the likes of Corgan and Gillespie to help sell Get Ready" episode and the general apparent deterioration in everything just out me off. Then, talking to the guys on here somehow rekindled the fires. It's not the same as it was before, no way, it is totally different, but no less of an experience. I rather like the current era now!

And last night just went to prove how fucking good this band still is. One of the best ever, I'd say, and that's at least two absolute belters in the last couple of weeks.

So far only been to 2 NO gigs - Liverpool and Blackpool. Blackpool absolutely blew me away, far better than Liverpool and I loved pretty much every minute of it

But it's unstandable that people are gutted after seeing NO back in the day - some of those concerts sound sublime

christ it pisses me off to see new order slagged so. anything they do they get slagged from some quarters. they cant win! just remember what they have given to us as jo/no. i still remember early shitty gigs, but still enjoyed the experience.

you cannot recreate your youth and neither can they. FFS its not a bad recent setlist is it? ok and we can want for IALP, age of consent, EGG, fine time!!! turn the heater on.. etc oh a rant is starting but i will stop. Enjoy what they are still giving or dont bother

It's pretty easy really, if you don't like the gigs don't go. I thought Blackpool was great as was MEN and I hope they carry on for a long time yet. It was a shit feeling in 93 when I thought I'd seen my last NO gig. Oh and it's not my 1st post I just can't remember PW or even what email address I used, not cool I know but there you have it.

when to the big top gig in liverpool and thought that was good but went to london last friday and it was the best set they have played for years ( didnt like the venue though and the people in the seats didnt hardly get up at all but the standing contingent had a good night )

Am surprised the originator of this thread has'nt contributed on here much before given their experience of being a fan for so long and their attendance at seminal gigs.

Like every other band they are not too hot live at times. In the last few years they have introduced a range of JD songs to their gigs. They have performed a number of really good songs from Get Ready & WFTSC. They perform for longer, they do encores. There is a friendlier tone on stage. They have sometimes included guests on stage. They have supported Manchester vs Charity and collaborated with other Manc. artists live.

In my view they are considerably more interesting live than in the 1980's.

Oh yeah, sorry about the "come on" outbreak on Saturday, Jim's fault, he started it! Was only 5 though I think!

totally agree, they've done their time. Maybe some people would prefer 8 songs, no banter, no encore.

Mark - spot on son you speak for the Villa Chosen Few. I went to Wembley and they rocked that sh*tty shack a treat. Wolves was sheer pleasure. I'll still tun up, I owe them that at least. Fine Times in return. Seems like a good bargain to me.

I am not slagging off New Order, I appreciate they have bills to pay.

I am commenting on the fact that as an aging fan, I get little or no enjoyment from gigs any more.

Well, Im an old NO fan as well, since 1985. Saw them live in 1988, in Rio de Janeiro. And at that time there was that saying: "they dont do encores, they dont play Blue Monday". Well, actually, that day they did both and I liked!!! So, I think it depends on the fan.

It ain't the same as Birmingham Tower Ballroom 86 but it's still a good crack

sounds like slagging. I saw them twice in 2002 and they were great. i wish i could see them more often.

They're still way beyond almost anyone else live and I can say that after seeing them live many times over twenty years and seeing dozens of bands dozens of times too.

Their worst gig is still beyond the best almost any other band can deliver. They've a unique presence and leagacy of just stunning songs. If you're not enjoying it - and it is different to the halcyon days of yore - that's fine and it's your feeling. I will always love them and will see them as often as I can until they call it a day.

It is like being married to someone for 20 years, things aren't as exciting as they were in the early days, but you still love them - probably even more - and you put up with their bad habits. Those who don't go for the 'divorce' option.
