I have hated watching New Order the last couple times

Hello all - I am new to the forum. I found it trying to research the stage times for the Blackpool gig.

I have been a massive New Order fan since 1983. I have seen them live dozens of times across the country, including seminal gigs at GMEX, The Hacienda, Reading and even in the USA.

The last couple of times I have seen New Order I have found it a profoundly depressing experience. The comeback gig at the Appollo was brilliant, like meeting old friends again but since then I have seen them at MEN Arena twice, Liverpool and Blackpool and my enjoyment has diminished with each gig. Now it is like watching kareoke.

I don't want Barney to tell the crowd to "Make Some Noise". Barney should be being quiet and moody, maybe telling the soundman to F**k off or something. New Order don't do encores, someone should remind them.

Sorry, but they should have quit while they were ahead, after Technique, or maybe Republic (at a push). They are now no longer important or cool and I prefer my memories the way they were.

So why do I keep going to see them? It feels like duty I guess, but I will definitely not be going again.

They were the best band on the planet but now they are just another bunch of aging rockers.

It doesn't sit too easy with me either. But as long as Hooky's bass is far too loud and Barney says something mental every now and then, I can deal with it.

Never sure about turning one of the last laments of a tortured soul into a party anthem with whoops and c'mons, and never will be.

Ive only seen New Order live twice and hated is not a world i would use. More like: enjoyed entertained laughed moved sung touched amused rocked LOVED!

I saw New Order in Blackpool last week and have to say the gig was every bit as good as the last ones Ive been too, including Liverpool. Overheard a bloke in the pub last night say to his mate why did they switch Hearsay off the juke box! If this is what people are wanting to listen to now and going to see in concert then I will stick with New Order however many times the same setlist is played!!!!

Well I for one have enjoyed the gigs and i even managed a little dance to Blue Monday.

We have all grown older, what's Barney to do now keep drinking a bottle of Perniod each night?

Roll on Friday and meeting up again with the usual suspects :D

Hey, I have to agree with Digital Mike and the others, every day we get older, we cannot help but change as we age... What are they supposed to do, just go away or die? I have seen them in their moody grouchy depressed days (Republic tour), and I think the concerts are much more fun and entertaining now, allbeit more "mainstream".

They are too established and well-known to be "cool" now, but hey, I think they should get out there and play there incredible catalogue of songs to whomever wants to see them. Just my 2¢ :-)

I totally agree, I think these gigs are the best gigs they have played since the 80's, you can't go back in time, we're all older (and wiser) but we can all still have a great time down at the front!

Now ... "never have", that's bad. I had my chance for Salt Lake City in '89 and missed it. I have to live with that.

Since 1985,I've seen them 14 times,8 since the '98 comeback,which in terms of probably quite a lot of NOOLers,isn' a lot,& Ive said before on here that the gig at Man Apollo 2001 was like watching a cabaret act( it's like being in the British Legion in Salford this),devoid of any mystery,aloofness,attitude etc,etc whatsoever.My point is that,in these past 8 times,it's a case of diminishing returns enjoyment wise but....I still fucking love them.& all the plaudits that come their way & the rock'n'roll attitude that comes out on stage,fucking good,they deserve it.& as for not being cool or relevant anymore,they will always be cool & relevant for as long as their music exists.So as much as I have sympathy to the original posters' point & agree in part,it has perspective

Nostalgia is a wonderful thing but it's not the old gigs you hanker after at all - it's being young and less miserable that you miss.

What a pissy suggestion that a band should give up their jobs (and therefore a good percentage of their income) just because some twat thinks they're not cool any more.

NOT being able to watch them between end of 93 and apollo 98 is what I HATED. (between 90-93, I was having the time of my life :winks: so probably didn't notice too much.)

Blackpool was my fist New Order gig....And it was well worth the wait. I LOVED it and I'm definitely up for doing more on the next tour.

I really don't understand the point of doing something that you don't enjoy and then moaning about it...unless it's work or obligation? Life it too short... just do something else that you enjoy and stop moaning.

For me, they were rough at B'mouth, although it might have been down to other factors such as the venue, the lack of the 'special gig' promised etc.

They can always redeem themselves tomorrow though in a giant aircraft hangar.

True I have no other New Order gigs to compare it to, but if I hadn't enjoyed it I wouldn't go and do it all over again and then sign up to a fan site and complain about it in one of my very first posts....

If i was pushed into a corner Minx, I'd probably agree with the poster, to a point. He probably has a huge amount of gig 'history' with New Order, and is in pain, after seeing some classic performances in the eighties. Some of this maybe down to exuberant youth, great drugs, perfect alcohol intake levels, a fantastic shag pre or post gig, a big bonus from the boss the might before and possibly a great deal of hindsight. Who knows. But I for one understand the angle he's coming from, to a degree. You used the word 'obligation' in your post, and for some of us it still is. As has been said before, 'its in the blood'.

However.. the bastards constantly surprise me, just with less frequency, and I'm hoping they pop up and do that tomorrow, starting with a rather different and less programmed setlist. A new classic hit single would be nice too, debuted tomorrow.
