Awaydays is just fiction though. Kevin Sampson's Extra Time's a decent read, for fact rather than fiction, although it's not a hoolie book. If you want footie fiction, you can't go wrong with John King. The original, and the best.

WHo were those two bald geezers who wrote hooligan books a couple of years back - they weren't too bad...Watford fans I think (soz Jarvo).
One of my flatmates is a Cardiff fan (when ManU are playing shit anyway). He went to Ninian park earlier in the season when they played Bristol City - apparently blokes were pissing into bottles and then chucking em at the City fans. Rank - particuarly as my mate had bought his dad and little brother along for the game...
On the subject of The Farm anyone remember 'The End' fanzine, I think Peter Hooton was involved. I remember their guide to the World Cup was hilarious, must have been the 86 world cup, not sure if it was nationwide or just local but definitely a quality read.

I remember at our school everyone going out and buying Adidas, Kappa and Patrick kagooles after watching Scully. Though this is a fashion that Happy Mondays continued well into the mid-80's!
Talking of Liverpool does anyone remember a series called Going Out which was about teens after they had just left school but was definately before the Making Out series?
I also remember Gary Crowley and Ear Say and I quite liked his cheeky chappie cockney persona!

Are you sure you don't mean 'What now' If it's the one I'm thinking of, it had someone who went on to disgrace himself in 'Bread' and then played Gary's by now rather fat mate in that thing where Nichoals Lyndhurst went back to WW2. Theme tune went "What's gonna happen, What's gonna happen, oooh oooh, What Now!"
Not sure, but it was pretty good. I was about 14/15 at the time, probably about '83/'84 and it was on about 10pm on Channel 4 on a Thursday night or something.

There's a bit in One Summer where two gangs meet on an estate and Icky has to go into the middle to meet a lad from the other side, 'for a chat'. But then they realise the lad from the other side is a knifer, just as it's nearly too late. Think the knifer was played by one Ian Hart, who's gone on to a billion and one things - Harry Potter, This Year's Love, Michael Collins, Back Beat, etc.

Bought a Nike Kagoul & Vilas Puma Trainers. Had Ivan Llendl trainers to begin with, then stepped up to Vilas 6 months later. Jose Marie Clerk Pumas were pretty smart too. The outfit was finished off with a pair of bleached Jeans.
I'm now waiting for the abuse to flow. Defo not revealing my hair style of that era.
Don't recall Going Out or What Now. Do recall Johnny Jarvis though, I think, is this the geezer who was so skint he cycled across London to get to work each day?

I don't recall Kappa being worn as early as that, not much before the time the USA olympic team had it in 84. Puma Vilas made your feet look massive. Adidas Palomas, the tan shoes were the bollocks in our school. Who ever bought anything by Australian with the Kangaroo motif? All there range seemed a bit crap to me and was stupifyingly 50% more expensive than everything else.I remember a lad I went the match with had an Australian tracksuit top, paid about £80.00 for it when Fila and Sergio Tachini were about £50.00 and that was about 6 months pocket money.
Funny, what with Australians and Borgs being mentioned as I believe the original (and the best) Diadora Borgs were made from Kangaroo! But they tried to re-issue them a couple of years back with little success cos they'd moved away from using 'roo leather and no one wanted to touch 'em.

All the trainer companies seem to be re-releasing the old skool trainers these days. A mate of mine has just bought some diadora borg elite (and i myself have have just puchased a pair of Adidas Forest Hills (with a very fetching gold sole !!)
