Another Memory for the trainspotters

Does anyone remember a version of Subculture being released on a free single with, I think, Record Mirror, around 1986? I have got this at home somewhere and I remember I much preferred it to the awful single release.

I don't believe this version was made available anywhere else.

Can anyone remember this release or shed any light on its origins?

it appears on a boot called Out of Order. It is called the exclusive mix there and is actually quite good.

Yeah, I remember that. In fact I think I bought 2 copies of Record Mirror thinking it would be a rare artifact in years to come. Really liked it, sounded broodier and more mechanical with lots of whirrs and clicks. Bernard sounds a bit bunged up with a cold too.

The single release was a big dissapointment to most fans at the time, I remember. It was very "poppy", at a time when lots of original Joy Division and early New Order fans were deserting the band because they felt they were betraying their rock roots.

The truth was, they were way ahead of their time!

I've got the Out Of Order bootleg,some decent gear on it. But what was the one with that woman wailing in the background? It was awful!

I really like that version - only found out some considerable time later that it was a Razormaid job. They made a decent fist of it, unlike most of their cut-and-paste-is-a-legitimate-mix-technique-honest shite.

Yes, probably the only thing Razormaid ever did that was worthwhile. Shamsters.

I bought a Raymonde record on the strength of their offering as well.

I remember CRYING when the SELOTAPE ripped my cover as i removed it from the magazine cover.So i BOUGHT another.What a RELIEF. SUBMINTY is not an OPTION!

I also just found a 3" CD called Round and Remix too. FACD263R. My CD player refuses to recognise its existence. Anyone know if its worth anything?

shove it in yer PC, most cdroms have a groove for 3" discs.

If it's a bit nargled, see if you can get "cdparanoia" for windows....it's quite astounding in it's ability to rescue fucked discs. Dunno if it works in windows, or how windows would react to it ( you know how it gets when it's messing with it's removable drives), but have a look.

If you are refering to the R+R mix on the 3" disc, then I must inform you that it is a remix in the VERY truest definition of the word.....the track was simply "mixed again", with some jiggerypokery.

As for the Razormaid one...well since it appears to be a unqiue mix, I must assume that they too did a proper mix from the master 2inch multitrack, got the sound they wanted, then applied their usual razorblading to the 1/2" stereo master(s?) they made. So spot on again.

actually these fit into most new cd players. i used have one of those adaptor ring thingys for it.

I stood on the adaptors at a rate higher than my arsedness to obtain them. I therfor adopted two tactics.....

1. Position disc carefully by eye on totally flat cd platter.

And ... (after at least 1 CD ( possibly "The Big E", was it out on 3"? anyone), had gone for the ride of it's fucking life round the inside of my stereo and came out looking like torville and bloody dean had been practicing on it for 3 months.) 2. put a normal cd on top of it, finger through centre, and you're sorted. 2.(a) Method 2, combined with 5 pints of home brew that shamed carlsberg death piss brew, will result in the precise same situation as method 1, except it'll be your mate's new CD he just bought and was badgering you to play.
