Not sure that "invoking" is the word you are looking for actually, Bob! "Evoking" might be better, but some might say that "parodying", "fucking up" or "badly imitating" might be more appropriate still!

I feel i am getting a headache.But this thread is a bit of a NOVELTY.I blame the dancing teachers!

If anything, I prefer it to the Joy Division version. In any case, bringing an excellent song like this to a new audience has got to be a good thing.

i chose invoke beacause i wanted to give it a mystical channeling Ian from beyond the grave type association. Ok im kidding.

I really just wanted peoples opinion on Barney mimicing Ians voice here and there throughout the song. I was really shocked because he has never made such an attempt. I liked it.

I really haven't noticed any mimicking. I'll have to listen again.

There's also Hooky's backing vox-he typically imitates Curtis' growl, as can be heard on various live versions of Ceremony.

I think it's just the way they sing, I don't really believe they're trying to invoke anyone.

Not that they don't have every right to do so if they wanted to, mind. Ian Curtis was a friend of theirs, they were even in a band together at one point.

I can't be the only one that picked up on this, Barney most definetly puts emphasis on certain lyrics that sound more like Ians style than any other JD song he has sang in the past.

Right, I noticed this too, but sometimes it's Hooky's backing vox that do that emphasis.

Barney can't win, can he? Criticised for not sounding like Ian, criticised for doing so... These Days has sounded great on this tour, better, in my opinion, than some of the 'rockier' JD songs they do now...
