New Order on Channel 4 music program Switch:

Age of Consent/Blue Monday

I'm not sure if anyone has posted this previously, but I haven't seen this footage on YouTube before. Does anyone remember this show and what dates it ran? It seems like the type of thing I would've watched while I was living in the UK, but it doesn't ring a bell.

Never seen that before either, very nice.

I like how, at the start of BM, Gillian just stands aside while Barney goes to about 3 different keyboards and fiddles about

They did Switch the same week that they played Blue Monday live on TOTP. It went out the day after TOTP if I remember right.

This was aired 1st April 1983. Classic performance on a Saturday morning kids show.

Someone above has a good memory cos Blue Monday TOTP was aired on the 31st March :thumb:

Actually Switch was shown on a Friday evening around 5pm. I watched it from the Ideal Home Exhibition in Earls Court or Olympia. John Peel was hosting or guesting on Radio 1's review of new singles 'Roundtable' live there. Switch's other memorable performance was the Fun Boy Three (don't laugh) who covered The Door's 'The End' with a American Flag burning at the end of the song. In the words of Shakin' Stevens 'lovely stuff'

Solly's right, Switch aired on a Friday Shug, TOTP was definitely a Thursday as New Order's performance was the talk of the school on the Friday.

No, I think you were slagged off for having disappeared and not telling your mum or sister!

i don't know any of the die-hards who don't have pristine copies of Switch or Rock Around The Clock, or any of the TV appearances for that matter!

Notable thing for me between TOTP and the Switch was the two different performances of Blue Monday - you have a listen/watch and see how different the arrangements are!

that was down to the beeb being arseholes insisting they did a sub 3 minute version, and the gear being fooked, and barney prbobably had flu (his usual excuse, his nose was probably bunged up with something else!)

Totally different versions - the TOTP one was very similar to the 7 inch edit, whereas the Switch version was just lopped off at about 5 mins, had been pretty much the full version until the drastically shortened end!
