whats the eagle and ball represent on the cover of "retro"?

I always meant to ask this.

The eagle is the past, signifying Joy Division (and its Nazi imagery) whilst the disco ball signifies the band direction after JD, moving to disco and dance.

Peter Saville got the inspiration from a window display in a shop he saw.

Didn't someone on here temporarily have an avatar of an old (Germanic) image that was clearly the direct influence for the cover???

And here's me thinking Saville had just nicked the Apollo 11 crew badge...

Also, Justin Timberlake had his own version of the Retro cover.

It's a comment on the rampant homosexuality (the DISCO glitter( which rhymes with sh****r) ball) at the heart of the Shrub misadministration (the Eagle).

I mean DUH, how OBVIOUS is that.

I genuinely think Saville just thats either its really cutting edge up his own arse stuff,or he just throws something together and thinks that'll do.

The last really good idea he had was for the stuff for Republic,which is about as ironic as things get,bad album great artwork.

Well, the booklet features a "cover inspired by Helmut Lang" credit. I don't get the "nazi-gay-disco" connection...

that guy is a sham. i bet he doesn't even like joy division/new order. all of his music was created by that turdaland dude....ask the fucker if he can name one song off of UP besides she's lost control....

You know, obviously N*Stink were one of the worst bands EVER...

...but i have to admit, JT is one of the only artists on top 40 radio that doesn't make me want to kill somebody.

That cover does look similar to Retro though, never noticed that before.
