Adam Moss writes for Manchester Evening News: New Order: We're not splitting up

RUMOURS of Mancunian pop legends New Order's demise may be somewhat premature, I am reliably informed. While numerous websites have been screaming out loud that the band has decided to call it a day I have it on good authority that the band are actually about to embark on one of their busiest years for many a moon. "It's the first I've heard of it," drummer Stephen Morris declares when I asked him about the split stories. "We've got an album to finish and a movie coming out this year." There's also the small matter of the 30th anniversary of Joy Division - the band which spawned New Order following the untimely death of enigmatic lead singer Ian Curtis. It is three decades ago this year that the youthful and energetic young band first hit the headlines and there's a lot planned to celebrate the event - not least a documentary-style movie about the legendary group made by acclaimed cinematographer Anton Corbin. Control

Stephen tells me: "Anton's film is called Control and is due out in February. "It's been made in black and white and we are all going to the premiere in February in Berlin. We are really looking forward to it and we've already seen a cut of it." "It's really good and should hopefully do very well," Stephen says. The band's music - including the now iconic 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' is to be honoured with an album of cover versions by some of today's biggest pop names. "The Killers have already done a version of Shadowplay for the album and there will be lots more great stuff on there hopefully," Stephen adds.

This had better be a wind-up.

I've just spent the last two weeks booking other things to do at weekends in order to take my mind off the loss of New Order (and so that I can get pissed with my mates, of course).

Piss off, New Order, we don't want you back.

We're too busy :thumb:

Looks like Al and Mark are pushing the boat out again..

Speaking of which, anyone in York next month?

The JORVIK Viking Festival is a long-established festival in York, celebrating our Viking heritage. The Festival sees hundreds of Vikings descend on the city and demonstrate battle-drills and training routines. The city is also treated to a range of public events including lectures, arts & crafts, encampments, river events, saga-telling, and full-scale battle re-enactments.

The 2007 JORVIK Viking Festival will take place from 14-18 February 2007.

Brilliant news, dead chuffed... cheered up my boring evening

I had a feeling in the back of my mind something like this would happen. It was pretty obvious the Brazilian reporter who got the "last tour" interview wet his pants and blew a weary tour comment or two completely out of proportion and it predictably snowballed. Twat.

I think some (Note: not all) of our South American chums were a bit too eager to lay claim to "New Order gasped their last on our continent" which is a bit fcuking sad but nevermind.

I'm well pissed off I was too pished to remember "Sisters and Brothers" or whatever it's called from the Hooky Dirty Sarf DJ set last summer :nonono: Hopefully we'll all have the CD containing it by the end of this year ;)

Hmmm... dont wanna piss on anyones fire but i remember Barney telling me and 75,000 others in 1994 'hi we're New Order, and we're not breaking up'.

Then they did. C___s.

They never broke up and never consider it a 'breakup'. It was a long break, hiatus from eachother and to do other things, to help spur more interesting for NO's next project, and if they even later on that it was worth saving...

Made my day.

That was actually in '89. So there's still one lackluster run of the mill album in them! :thumb:
