RUMOURS of Mancunian pop legends New Order's demise may be somewhat premature, I am reliably informed. While numerous websites have been screaming out loud that the band has decided to call it a day I have it on good authority that the band are actually about to embark on one of their busiest years for many a moon. "It's the first I've heard of it," drummer Stephen Morris declares when I asked him about the split stories. "We've got an album to finish and a movie coming out this year." There's also the small matter of the 30th anniversary of Joy Division - the band which spawned New Order following the untimely death of enigmatic lead singer Ian Curtis. It is three decades ago this year that the youthful and energetic young band first hit the headlines and there's a lot planned to celebrate the event - not least a documentary-style movie about the legendary group made by acclaimed cinematographer Anton Corbin. Control

Stephen tells me: "Anton's film is called Control and is due out in February. "It's been made in black and white and we are all going to the premiere in February in Berlin. We are really looking forward to it and we've already seen a cut of it." "It's really good and should hopefully do very well," Stephen says. The band's music - including the now iconic 'Love Will Tear Us Apart' is to be honoured with an album of cover versions by some of today's biggest pop names. "The Killers have already done a version of Shadowplay for the album and there will be lots more great stuff on there hopefully," Stephen adds.

The JORVIK Viking Festival is a long-established festival in York, celebrating our Viking heritage. The Festival sees hundreds of Vikings descend on the city and demonstrate battle-drills and training routines. The city is also treated to a range of public events including lectures, arts & crafts, encampments, river events, saga-telling, and full-scale battle re-enactments.

The 2007 JORVIK Viking Festival will take place from 14-18 February 2007.

They never broke up and never consider it a 'breakup'. It was a long break, hiatus from eachother and to do other things, to help spur more interesting for NO's next project, and if they even later on that it was worth saving...

Al, about your impressions in SA. Were they based on watching band interaction on/off stage or from conversations you had with key personnel?

Oddly, it was Hooky who seemed the most despondent about it all and now it's Steve who appears the most upbeat. Wondering if it's a case of contrasting opinions within the band that are yet to be resolved. Another one of their infamous communication impasses.

Again, Steve seems genuinely excited about Corbijn's movie while Hooky's been less than complimentary recently.

Hopefully the movie enjoys a decent run and the associated media junket presses the lads into agreeing on some plans for 2007. Have they fulfilled contract obligations at Warner now? Perhaps we'll see the WFTSC off-cuts on Wilson's F4...

I know it doesn't matter, but that interview were made by a reporter from Argentina, not a Brazilian one.

Even if they did split up now,the ONLY thing we'd go without is gigs (although its a big thing). We had a constant stream of releases from both JD and NO from 1993-2001.

And they may be under contract to deliver this "other" album they had half done,which could mean another Republic but who know?

I'm assuming that while Hooks is busy with DJ and 3Bass Bernard and the other members of the band have been busy writing new songs and someday a new album will appear out of nowhere.

There is always excitment when a new album is released.

As long as NO do music/gigs I enjoy and more importantly they enjoy and feel have some relevancy then I'm happy for the band to continue and if they do gig this year I look forward to it and meeting up with some you guys again! Cheers!

Think the touring is perhaps too much of a slog though, and there's some big personalites in there starting to clash.

It's funny again. German Music Website Intro.de titles New Order: Alles in Ordnung and translated the NME article nearly 1:1 from english to german. Source for them worldinmotion.net, too. :D

It also made the hourly headlines on XFM on Friday, all information basically a direct lift from the NME. Must have been a slow news day.

I would like to make a comment about New Order splitting up I will be really sad I have been so dedicated to this band :) for years. I don't find it amusing that people are so happy that they are splitting up oh well could say I'll treasure the happy memories of them and of course Hooky for a long time. Honestly why so much hatred towards them.

I am glad New Order is not splitting up. It tore me up when they did in early '90.

As for their new project with Control, I believe New Order should have done the cover song Shadowplay instead of the Killers and all of Joy Divisions songs. Because that is New Order's legacy.

If and when the movie premieres in the US I look forward to seeing it just because of their history. It was a loss loosing Ian Curtis, but what came out of it is the continuing story of New Order.

I have seen New Order twice in my lifetime and Electronic once when Neil Tenant came onstage. Everything they have done as artists have been a blessing. I hope to see them all again on stage. Please come to the US again and on the east coast, since I no longer live in Southern California.

Shittiest news I've had so far this year if it is true. If it hadn't been for the Order, I probably never would've got into most of the stuff I'm listening to now. You know what they're like, though; they say they're splitting and then come back. I'll believe it when there's a formal announcement!

Not only am I a bit confused, I also would like to hear from the other three---Phil, Stephen, and Bernard about this. If I hear this confirmed as true that they are splitting up from every member of NO, then I will be convinced.
