new order, completely redundant?

the music is still great, still cool on stage and i have met some great people at the gigs from on here and cant wait till the next round of gigs if there ever is any. Discuss.

I think their music is still really good both compared to their old work and the music of today overall. They still chart in a number of catagories, are nominated for awards, covered by other artists, they release more then one or two singles per album along with music videos and their shows sell out well. Also, side projects such as Control and Peter Hook's endeavors as a DJ are well publicized in as much as I don't know any other DJ from England who is beyond say, The Chemical Brothers.

New Order is still very relevant. They've never been in the Hollywood-type limelight and they never will be.

it's true! you know it! they're still great, but that's because of who they were as much as it is who they are.

Thier last album, WFTSC was excellent, thier best since Technique. It sold well and was generally well reviewed. It produced 1 top 10 single, and two top 20 singles. In the USA it produced a Number 3 Dance Chart single. The toured the album for a eyar and a half. They played more than a handful of sold out concerts, headlined a number of massive festivals, recieved many awards, and were cited as being an important influence to many bands.

They arent redundant at all and I can't wait for thier next album.Are they still groundreaking and innovative? No. They did thier part to change the face of modern music. All they need to do know is write kick ass songs and play some kick ass shows.

I saw them in 2005 and they were amazing. They are awesome onstage.

I think you mean it's not cutting edge anymore, don't you? Due in no small measure to the fact that the entire music industry has moved to where they were. Not many bands out there who don't cite Joy Division and/or New Order as influences.

WFTSC was not successful in the USA, sorry to say. Had they bothered to tour for longer than a brief jaunt and released WFTSC as a single before Jetstream, things would have turned out much better.

But no, they aren't redundant. They've made some cheesy tracks recently, but then so was stuff like State of the Nation. Half of WFTSC is well done and memorable. We might not get another Temptation, Age of Consent, or Bizarre Love Triangle, but I think it's quite remarkable that there are so many classic New Order tracks. Most bands would be lucky to have just one song like Age of Consent or even something more recent like Turn.

New Order are largely irrelevant as far as current cutting edge dance music or current pop music... and the singles WFTSC and Turn would have not made any ripples. So what. Let New Order have some fun and ignore them if you are not interested.

only that IMHO you are wrong. I enjoy their newer output and love seeing them live (ok that was only twice since they reformed).

They were pish when they started (After Curtis) and they're still pish:- ("I think you are a pig you should be in a zoo" fer fuck's sake) if they hadn't been in Joy Division I'd never have listened to them at all! Unfortunately they are the best pish, the pish that's called music has got, or had, since Joy Division. Come to think of it even Joy Division were pish compared to Warsaw. And what kinda name is Warsaw for a band? Stiff Kittens is much better!

Ooooh, redundant? Okay, now I'm peeved. Time for my dos centavos [two cents for you non-Spanish-speakin' folks] into this little mudsling.

First and foremost, I have been a New Order baby. I grew up listening to New Order for nearly all of my life, and as far back as I could remember there were three things usually that I had to say about New Order:

1--No matter what, Stephen Morris is the hottest man alive, and the greatest drummer, period. 2--No matter how many times I hear 'The Perfect Kiss', 'True Faith', 'Turn', or 'Someone Like You', I never get tired of it. 3--Sometimes the visual side of New Order is thought-provoking. [Example: the artwork of 'Substance'.]

Therefore, second, in my happy and humble opinion, they evolve with each album, every song.

Thus, how the Helen of Troy could they be redundant!? That maketh no sense.

I would list some very good examples of how they've been evolving, but then I'd make my little rant/rave a bit longer than I had intended. [It's already exceeded my intention as is!!!]

Couldn't have put it better myself Zachery. At the end of the day they may not be produce another Low Life or Technique but that's the whole point they've moved on. Some people - like me, like what they're doing now and others like Gerry don't and they quite rightly entitled to their views. However you can't dictate to NO what they should be doing or want them in a 1983-89 timewarp which IMO would make them irrelevant. To be blunt if you don't like it don't buy the records/go to the gigs it's as simple as that. Cheers!

Mmmmm,disagree slightly there. Yes,music not as good anymore,but substandard recent N.O. compared to classic N.O. will still do for me. Act like dicks on stage? Nah. Sleeves are still quality. There are definately some anoraks & arseholes on here,I'll give you that. Anyway,have another drink
