non english new order fans

do any of you get a hard time for liking new order?

a recent chat with a few of my mates who are regulars at scotland games gave me the impression that new order are looked on as being a band you can't enjoy because of world in motion

i love the song myself

We've just made our own version of WIM. Such matters could never be an issue in my household, which comprises of a hibee, a chelski fan, one that supports who ever is winning, and a jamtart ! :D

but that's not what you were asking, sorry ... suppose Deek (the hibee) isn't too keen on the track but it doesn't stop him liking NO.

It was NO third biggest hit in Germany after BM and TF. I think, nobody in Germany has problems with the song. I would like it to see it live.

I get a tremendous amount of stick for liking New Order here in the States... primarily because they are seen as a "girls band" and even worse an outdated "girls band" from the 1980's...

I've had many an arguement with people about how influential they are and at this point I've actually stopped arguing... if they don't like them, their loss...

I'd love to send some Vikings around to some of the people who say "Only girls like New Order" and see what comes of it...

In my part of the states, Columbus Ohio, New Order are considered to be a very important ann influential alternative band. Being under 30 and liking New Order means you are intelligent, hip, and you know your shit about music.

Back in the late 80s-early 90s New Order was known to many ignorant people in the USA as a Depeche Mode wannabe like band that wasn't nearly as good as the DM... i remember the lame Depeche Mode fan posers with much distaste. Of course in the 80s, to average mainstream American college kids New Order was dismissed as "fag" music...

Luckily for me my friends in high school were big fans of New Order. This was in the Peoples Republik of Kalifornia. Now I live in Colorado and I've only met a couple people who've ever heard of them and they both think they "f*cking rock!" and they're both women.

I make my boss listen to NO at work and she's always bitchen about how it's "always the same beat" and she calls them "techno music." Whenever she says that, I put on Confusion - Pump Panel Reconstruction Mix and turn it up.

I put up the NO album covers poster in my office and my boss likes that one after I explained to her who Peter Saville was and the NO link. Her and myself make up the entire graphics department for our company. New Order is essential in this line of work!

Here in Belgium it's still ok to like JD, but NO are regarded here as an inferior version of Depeche Mode or The Cure (both very popular bands here !), it seems, and Blue Monday is the only song people really know over here.

Well, here in the States [or at least in my end of town, in DeLand] New Order is very much admired and respected. My coworkers love the mix c.d.s I put together of New Order and Joy Division that I bring to work sometimes [especially when I need an extra boost, 'cause let's face it--drive-thru can be a wear-out task force!], and even my store manager thinks I'm crazy to be a fan-girly goth/punk girl.

I am an American that is not ashamed to say New Order rules my world. ['Cause they and Joy Division are the soundtrack to my life. Yes!]

Nobody has ever given me any shit about liking New Order. I'd punch 'em out if they did. The people I work with don't know who they are, but they all sing along to Bizarre Love Triangle when it's on the radio in the office.

Dont get a hard time for liking them,but i think in the UK dance music has had such a massive effect over the past 20 years that people kind of go,"oh an 80s band how retro..."

Maybe im getting old,but i get the impression that hardly anyone under 20 likes anything other than the latest dance music.
