HA! That caught your attention didn't it??

Actually it's a more tenuous association than it reads, but have a look nevertheless.....

What it is is that in this latest edition of the Manchester Fortnightly Listings magazine (DOVES being the cover stars - hear that Stevie?? ;) ) if all you local Manc-based folks pick this particular ish up and flick to page 95 you will see an article on The Cornerhouse bookshop at the bottom of the page. Tim Sheehan is being interviewed. Cheeky Monkey gets a mention here credited as "a local artist"..... Didn't know you were moonlighting as such on the sly Collette!! "Piss" artist perhaps?? ;)

Now, The Martian - or rather one of my fabled designs - turns up on page 101 (How APT!!  ) At the top right is a review - plus pic - of local hero and DJ cohort of ours Mr Scruff. His Right Honourable Groovy Scruffness is wearing a t-shirt DESIGNED BY YOURS TRULY!!! WooooHoooo!!!  Yup - I know it isn't much to scream about (I mean, Stockport for fuck's sake! Just happens to be mine and Scruffy's home town that's all!) Little does he probably know who was the fair creator behind that garment....
Cool eh?? My old artwork is starting to get everywhere now....

First, no singles after "Crystal." Now no copies of Manchester Fortnightly Listings. What is a poor Yank to do? Is this the price we must pay for winning our independence?

(Speaking of piss artists, the top floor of the Andy Warhol museum in Pittsburgh has a bunch of Warhol's piss paintings. Anyone visiting the U.S. this summer rather than seeing NO should put it on his or her itinerary as a must see. Honest.)

Martin, you must have a computer to post here, so why do you deprive us of our much-needed mp3s and photos? Do you hate us all that much?

Don't answer that.

P.S. Congratulations Ms. Cheeky. :thumb:

Simply because I'm not very well-versed on the technological side of things to be honest with you. I can burn CDs and dick around remixing shit on my "Soundedit 16" software and then convert these AIFF files to MP3s I guess but that's about all really. As for photos - just two snags: 1) No digital camera and 2) No scanner. As yet. :(

Anyway Kimberly got some pics I emailed her last nite, so SHE knows what I look like, and JANAKI will soon get my CD, so she'll find out what I SOUND like too - it'll be YOUR lucky day next! ;)

But...but...SoundEdit 16 only runs on...Macintosh!

Cue Prokofiev's Romeo and Juliet.

 Crikey Marty I thought we'd been rumbled for a second! ;)

Me, Piss Artist? Surely not! I am however slightly better at drinking than singing so that should give you an indication as to the poorness of my singing ability! :o

Hmmm...cranky, Mac-centric, enjoys beating drums with sticks when not doing graphic design, verbose, pedantic, moody, mid-thirties, impeccable musical taste...

When I first posted, other people thought I was Martin. Now that everyone else is convinced that we're two people, I'm starting to think I am Martin after all.

Speaking of, Mr. Martian...which one of us is creating the anime Janaki from her profile photo for the record sleeve?

Well you WERE credited on the page as "one of the finest Local Artists" or somesuch...so...are you artistic?? ;) ;)

But I was so overjoyed to see MY TEE-SHIRT design being sported by our beloved off-beat oddball deck-spinner Mr ScruffyWuffy there - next time I bump into him in town I'm gonna buy him a drink and a few spliffs for having such impeccable taste.....

I think it's YOU, Mr Gnu....after all, haven't you got the better computer, allegedly? :D ;)

hrrm. gimme 10 years and perhaps i'll be more at your level. 'cept for the male bit, of course. ;)

(actually, first computer i ever used was a Mac...in my grammar school, 'twas all we were taught on. in my word processing classes in high school, we were on on old Apple IIEs and learning from AppleWorks. my mother used to have an old WANG word processing unit that took those old magnetic cards...and then traded it in for an ancient Royal Caravan manual typewriter [which in turn taught me interesting ways to type, since my pinkie fingers weren't strong enough to hold down the keys! and i won't even talk about getting my wee fingers stuck between the keys in it... :nonono: ] so it wasn't till college, really, that i ended up on PCs. and due to the necessity of writing papers and such, and sometimes relying on the ability to go from my computer to the ones at school...my purchase of a non-Mac. :p once i have no such constraints on me, i'd be surprised if i didn't go back to a Mac...though of course i have no say over what i'm using at work. for the moment, anyway. ;) )

and which pic were you going off of for this purported design? :skeptic:

Speaking of male bits, we used to work on a big WANG in high school. We had a couple of big WANGs and one Apple IIe, if you were lucky enough to get to use it. I always got stuck with a WANG.

Can you tell I like saying WANG?

Don't worry everyone: this is all peripherally on topic because it traces our introduction to computers and the subsequent issues of dehumanization and isolation that led us to so dig Joy Division and Kraftwerk back in the day.

My daughter  turns 7 tomorrow, and I find myself telling her often of my brave pioneer days at her age: no computers, no CDs, no VCRs, no cable TV, no microwave ovens, no indoor plumbing...kind of like today. I wish I had some money.

 i had the feeling you'd appreciate the mention of the WANG, actually. was no big surprise. early happy birthday to your daughter, incidentally. hope she has a lovely one! :D

and yep, sounds much like my upbringing. notice how nearly all those computational devices were at *school*? had naught but a record player & receiver, some speakers, and a 9" b&w TV that barely worked if you grabbed up the rabbit ears, hooked up aluminum foil, and posed yourself in interesting fashions to pull the signals in from outside.

actually, that's one of the only useful things my mom taught me, was correct care & handling of vinyl.

as in round discs...not the sort you wear. though both can really be considered a fetish. ;)

yep, money would be nice. sadly, not to be, the way i'm going. 'swhy i want to get a part-time second job over the summer.
