Yeah - noticed that. Also he probably thought he was Chris Cornell from Soundgarden too. At least Hutchence succeeded in his suicide bid. Gahan was so fucked up by the mid 90's he couldn't even do that right.!! 
[by the way, I DO like a lot of Depeche Mode stuff - their prime period was 1986-1993. I also have their last album but it's pretty well washed up isn't it? They've lost that edge that made them good - Alan Wilder leaving has got a lot to do with it - IMHO, he's their best musician and with him they made their best records!!! So never mind the argument that without Dave Gahan there is no Depeche Mode - au contraire - without Alan Wilder, Depeche Mode should have really called it a day]
