okay...some of you said that Kings Crossing (or Cross, whatever it's called) is not exactly the best place for me to stay...what about Kensington...I've found a decent little deal at a B&B there...so should I change my hotel reservations or not???
any input will be greatly appreciated...and I swear...this will be the last I ask about accomodations....
Kings X is, basically, a sh*tehole.
Depends which bit of Kensington you mean. Most people immediately think of Ken High Street, or Ken Church Street - amazing areas. But then you do have South Ken, which ain't so nice.
Doesn't really matter where you are - as long as you're in Zone 1 you're basically on top of everything.
Do you have a whatchamacallit pass? You can buy it for the week and then take the tube or bus anywhere.
I really liked the tube. It was fast, convenient, and the subterranean rats were relatively rabies-free and non-aggressive.

Jarvo...this one is off the A4 after it changes into West Cromwell Road...allegedly very close to the Earls Court Underground Station...does this help with a reccomendation at all???
Personally I would stay in Kings Cross as its sooo central, even if it is a shitehole. You're only 1 tube stop away from Islington and the bright lights of Upper Street! I'm quite happy to show you a few bars if you like.
However Earls Court is on the Piccadilly Line which will take you direct to Finsbury Park.
As Jarvo said there's not much in it really.

That place will be OK - easy enough to get everywhere and very straightforward to get to Finsbury Park. What's it called ?
I'd go for Ken' if you can - especially if you fancy having a look at some of the finest parts that London has to offer. Kings Cross is rank. As has been mentioned as long as your staying in Zone 1, anything worth seeing's only about 15mins away

This one would be the West Cromwell Hotel...it's small...and it's significantly less expensive than the place in Kings....

the one in Kings is Comfort Inn Kings Cross...
and that was a nice pic of the young lady drying her hair at the West Cromwell...do those come standard with all the rooms?
Personally, I'd go for the Comfort Inn cos it's much more central, and just 2 stops from Fins-bree.

okay...I shall just stick with what I have...Kings Cross it is...of course...I'll only be there for sleeping purposes... rest of my time will be spent at all those touristy spots...Tower of London...London Eye...all that stuff intended to part me from my money....the British Museum...you know, all that nifty stuff we don't have here...
and yes...meetups and drinks with the brotherhood shall be planned...I'm sure Saturday night before Finsbury shall probably be a rather sizeable gathering...
don't know if anybody is interested in doing anything during the work week...
Don't be so sure about Kings Cross my friend if you haven't already booked. It was and I'm sure still is crack central and it is a dangerous area at night. It doesn't matter how close you are to Finsbury with the tube. I would go for Kensington every time. Hope this isn't too late.

So would I - Kensington is so near everywhere else you are only ten minutes away on the tube from the best bits. Finsbury is one day - you're here for a bit longer than that, and would be far better off in Kensington. Try the West Cromwell, it's bound to be better than King's Cross.
Grigo, i'd agree with the above. Plus talking of museums if thats your thang, theres a couple of very good'uns by South Ken tube. London Eye, Piccadilly Circus etc are nice and close and accesible from Earls court and, as was said above, you won't be shitting yourself walking back to your hotel at night

I'd still go for the King's X option. Better access to everything than Earl's Court. You could walk to Tottenham Court Road, Leccy Square and Oxford Circus in 10mins from the Comfort Inn. Like to see you try doing that from Earl's Court.
Depends what you want from your trip though - should imagine there are faaar more Starbucks in Kensington, as it would cater more for the incoming tourist. But that's all you basically get that side of London: tourists.

My Mrs is from Somerstown, which is the 'wrong' side of the Euston Road, and she doesn't find the area scarey.
Quite frankly, we don't 'do' guns here, very much, so where ever you'll be at least you'll be safer than the good ol' US of A. Least if you do get mugged, you've a chance to fight back, instead of getting a sluug between your shoulder blades. ;)
Lived in Kings Cross for 2 years & the danger element is being well exaggerated. Never had any hassle from anyone & I walked the 1/2 mile from the tube to my gaff in the small hours loads of times.
It's a bohemian area but no trouble. Has a reputation as a red light district which may contribute to a perception of being a bit rough.
Closer to the parts of London you'll want to see. I'd stay put Jeff.
