Just listening to my mint vinyl copy of the lp and it is just truly stunning. You all all know that of course, but I just thought I'd share.

Movement Rules....I am jealous, I would love a mint copy of the album on vinyl...I can only imagine how much better it sounds. Curious as to why it seems so many people don't hold this album in higher regards than they do. I would take Movement any day over any post-1988 New Order.
Don't quite know if it is the end all be all but it is good, especially on vinyl.
Two copies of this I have on vinyl...and good they are.
I'm listening to it now and it sounds ok. I must admit, despite owning it for about 13 years, I've not listened to it that much and probably not given it the attention it deserves, although I've always liked Dreams Never End.
Interestingly I have just noticed that the inner sleeve appears to have a number on it "00091" and I was just wondering if anyone else's inner sleeve had this number.
yeah, a lot of music has those connections w/ me too. Thank God I only have good vibes and memories from Movement...There are other great bands that I can't listen to with the same innocence as before. Such a perfect color on the album sleeve to convey the music inside as well, imo.

Yup, never understood why they hate it, beyond the ugly atmosphere around them at the time of making it.
mine's says " FCL Product nr. 50 ", no other numbers found. glad to read so many others appreciate it as much as I do. loved it from day one.
I was lucky to find a shrink-wrapped unopened copy of Movement in the white sleeve in a recors shop in Edinburgh 3 or 4 years ago.
2nd New Order album I bought, back in '83, will always like it.
I actually like the production, especially the contrast it has compared to the other records, productionally speaking. I feel your pain though.
yes no movement on saturday. If you get the chance read the back page of the observer's sports section for a far more momentous football match in Israel over the weekend. The last line is most apt.

My least favourite album. It comes across as a pale immitation of Joy Division to me. I can totally understand why the band themselves arent that keen on it. The guitars are tinny, theres no bass, its gloomy, not much quality in the songs.
Having said that, I do like other versions of the songs on John Peel sessions and live.
I think the thing with Movement is that they had started to move on, and Hannett seemed to think that they should sound like Joy Division still. Listen to the non-Hannett produced Peel session songs they recorded before Movement was done, and appreciate the different touch the songs are given. Ok, the Peel stuff is done in one session over one day, so less time can be devoted to crafting the final product, but it does sound more like the songs as they had evolved live. To me, Movement sounds claustrophobic and unsure, and they weren't unsure at this stage in their development, they were starting to blossom. It almost sounds as though it should have been recorded in late 1980 rather than in the summer of 1981.
Some top tunes, I have great ( err well not so great - faded )memories of the MOvement songs being played live.
Think Tim makes a really good point about the Peel Session vs Hannett production and sound - Movement - great songs, great sleeve, shite production... 
Compare some of the live performances of, say, Denial to the raher lacklustre effort on Movement... Chosen Time stands out increasingly for me sounds clearer and fresher, whereas old faves like DNE just don't have the same appeal anymore... I much prefer things like Procession, EGG, Mesh, C&W from this sort of time...

I quite like Truth, Senses, Dreams Never End and ICB and there'd always be a bit of ambiguity/transition from their JD past to what was going to be the future NO. However I do agree that these tracks were better on the 1980 Peel Session and in a live setting like Taras Shevchenko in '81 and I was in short pants - literally when Movement originally came out so for some people it may be their holy grail or worst example of what JD/NO have done on record! Hate Movement. Dont understand how anyone could say this is their favourite album...I just don't get it.
Glum, dreary, murky, tuneless, poor lyrics for the most part. The overall impression is that their hearts weren't in it.
It isn't horrible - but listening to material by Section 25 and A Certain Ratio from 1981 puts Movement to shame. Listen to 'Always Now' and 'To Each...', then put on Movement. You can understand why even the band thinks its crap.
Movement is a funny thing really. It's not only my favorite album of all time, but it's by my favorite band of all time. Plus, it hosts my favorite song of all time, Doubts Even Here. Absolutely brilliant song, not sure why everyone always jumps to Dreams Never End if Movement is brought up. Probably because it's on the American (the best of) New Order CD. That one doesn't do much for me.
Another aspect of Movement that I absolutely love is how, much like another band I quite enjoy (A Perfect Circle), the album flows so well. It starts off with the uplifting jangley guitar sounds of Dreams Never End, and then goes right down into the deep end.
But again. Needs to be polished up a tad. Of course, the mint vinyl is probably the sound I'd be looking for. I, sadly, only own the Cd.
