Is it just me,or does it beg a certain question....& coming after Hooky saying that 'the climate isn't ready for a new N.O. album at the moment'? You see where I'm going with this...........WHY are they selling their gear????

I think linking New Order's fate as a band to a few bits of aged electronic music gear being flogged is a bit overzealous :)

Maybe if they used this older gear they'd make some songs that sound like the older ones.

I've looked on Ebay,it says some of it was used on the 2005 tour so it's not that old.Does anyone recall if they've done this before? Mmmmm...I'm not convinced

This stuff is not that old and easily replaced with plugins, no real vintage stuff here.

It looks like the sort of gear they could easily live without, so don't read anything into it.

Most of the gear being flogged is around ten years old. I've had my (Alesis) D4 drum module for about that time so it's roughly mid-nineties vintage. A lot of musos are going totally over to just using plug-in (software) synths, samplers etc rather than cart bulky black boxes around everywhere.

Maybe the future will see Hooky, Barney and Steve stock still behind laptops like Kraftwerk did a few years ago! Whether they feel they need to slim down their gear even more or they need the money or they're calling it a day and everything must go we just don't know and aren't likely to be told.

Who knows? We are talking about the Order here and, like God, they move in mysterious ways!

If you want some of it.....think EMU and Quasimidi (we have a Technox, and QM's kit is verfy individual).

If it's cheap enough it's worth it. The Emu proteus, procussion and Vkeys are all great sample players. The Quasar is a deeply unique instrument. The only dull bit of kit is the Roland D10 (or was it the D110 rack, can't check as ebay is blocked in work), which is the entry level version of the D50....handy if you want that bell sound from Vanishing Point of course.

EDIT: yeah the d110 rack, bit piddly, but great for Technique sounds, as well as being really audiogenic, like most Roland synths you can pile it's voices up with getting a big mess. Avoid the D4 drum box as well, it may have 500 samples, but 494 of them are poncier than Bob Smith's poodle. Fair's fair though, the percussion noises on it are good.

They have tons of old studio stuff that is coming up for sale - maybe some live stuff later on as well. Fear not, they aren't packing it in or anything like that, it's just that they have a shedload of gear that is lying dormant and taking up space. From an official source.

They've always had odd taste in gear, should be interesting (barring anything bearing the name Yamaha, UGH!)

I was going to bid on the D4 as a replacement for my D4 as the display has gone in it. It is far from being "poncey" - it's a quality piece of kit! If Mr Morris has owned one, that's good enough for me. Still, I fancied a change as I think I've explored the D4 to its furthest recesses so the Procussion might be interesting.

How cool is it that it's the Roger Lyons selling the kit on Steve's behalf? The man helped reconstruct the live version of BM and has also worked with Ladytron and John Foxx.

It'll be interesting to see what other kit they knock out soon. Anyone fancy any of the XP-80s they've used live for a fair while now?

I slept in last night :( missed auction end, which is a shame cos I quite fancied the Zoom9010 ah well.

And the D4's snares wear pink panties!

Yes, I'd say they were worth having, especially if you're in the Re:Order/Digital camps! Having the actual sounds to hand as crafted by the Order themselves would be very cool.

I wonder if they're planning to sell off all of their old kit? I mean, have they loads to go and do they have anything they would never part with in terms of tech gear?

A lot of it will be sold, yes. Maybe not all though.

I think most of the really droolworthy stuff will be either clapped out, long gone or the sort of thing that still commands silly 2nd hand prices.

Mind you, there's bound to be something cool, and I'm always glad to give good kit a good home.
