I know this has been discussed before, but I can't find the thread (that search thing still ain't working for me). Anyway I know most people reckon the lyrics are "love is the air that supports the eagle" but I am pretty sure it's "love is the air that supports the ego" as in being loved makes you feel better about yourself. Anyone agree with me?

edit: soz Geri, my continental buddy, but I wouldn't know if the air supported my ego so my answer is no!
You've just reminded me of something actually but it requires a new thread :D

Fair point, I've seen many a-dreary thread linger round in the forums.
why would air support an ego? why not "love is the bridge that supports the ego", "love is the corinthian column that supports the ego" then? or more appropriately "love is the flattering compliment that supports the ego"........?
I think it's "love is the heir that supports the eagles" obviously a direct reference to the beneficiary of kurt cobain's crystal palace season ticket.
To be honest, for such questions, we should listen to various live versions.
It's like "tan" vs "town" in Run... though that one we had the guy who bought the Technique Mac who was able to tell us from official lyrics sheets.
But sometimes, Bernard changes it live just to piss us off ;)
Love is the air that supports the Eagle.
It's bleedin' obvious to me when listening to it. Seem to recall it was pretty clear in some Top Of The Pops live appearance or other too.

Eagle as in love being powerful always seemed the one for me... Ego seems to suggest the theory of love as psychological delusion which is bollox IMHO.
I dont think Barney knows either half the time. Not the clearest of singers is he.
I use to think it was "ego" until i bought that yellow covered NO songbook (official?) that printed all the lyrics and it had "eagle". So I always hear eagle now.
Eagle, surely? Though Will's suggestion is infinitely better all round. ![]()
Can we have a poll on this? ![]()
I must be miles off cos i never study this kind of thing but always thought it was something like,
love is the cure for the perfect ego. ![]()
Do you really think Bernard put this much effort into writing them as we are into reading them?![]()

Don't laugh! Thast's what I used to think it was! ![]()
Still like it better than the actual lyrics, and my thought process on the meaning is the exact same as Geri's, in that love makes you feel more important and better about yourself.
Evil/eagle makes more sense from a 'rhyming' point of view, always thought it was eagle, cos love makes you soar... ![]()

Always thought it was "ego". But now you've said "eagle" it's kind of spoilt the line for me now. :(

Then it goes. The link where all things Baldy an DISCO never Die.
Think Thieves is untouchable. Most Bands can just Dream of reaching its style. Yet NO set the Pace and matched it more than a few Times. TPK, Cries an Whispers, Hurt.. Subjective, changin and limitless to mixes. If you like that sort of thing.
I would prefer it to be:
Love is the ID, it supports the EGO.
good psychology in that one...
Glad you brought it up, for a long time I thought the lyric was "Love is the End that that supports the Ego" But I now think the real lyric is "Love is the Air that supports the Eagle". Then again on occasions I sometimes think it's both. Pity, personally I prefer the End/Ego lyric and think it fits the sentiments/lyric better.
