Most Underrated New Order Song?

Here's a challenge for everyone - listen to the album version of Someone Like You and then try and tell me it's not a classic until the chorus! Until he ruins it with that scuzzy "we're having the time of our lives...." bit, the song is up there with the very best instrumentation.

Actually, I don't mind the chorus. Except for the "ooh ooh ooh ooh" part. That is awful. Agreed, though, that it does have a catchy beat! The other bad part is the lyrics are weak, even for NO.

Oh, and Dracula's Castle from WFTSC :thumb:

I think the biggest problem with Dracula's Castle is the title. Shouldn't make a difference to a song's popularity, but it does.

Actually, as a whole New Order is underrated.

Agreeing with you there, Steve.

It also dawned on me that, as I was listening to one of my NO mix c.d.'s last night, I realized how uber-underrated 'Paradise' is... and it's actually becoming one of my fave songs!

Shellshocker: I wonder if it anything to do with the long hiatus they were and it just took too long to do an album and some fans did move on to other things cause Alan Cross from The 102.1 Edge said some fans did age and moved on. After that 1993 concert at Canada's Wonderland I was really starting to miss them it actually depressed me:( but never stopped thinking about them.:) .

That could very well have something to do with it. I imagine smoe fans did move on. Also, as you've said before, it takes some time to come to appreciate new songs as much as older songs. I know that while with some songs I experience love at firt listen, with others I develop more of an attachment to them over time. So maybe in a few years WFTSC will be better regarded. I also suspect that most NO fans (like me) are in the mid 30's to mid 40's range, and we most of us do tend to like things from "the good old days", as it gives us feelings of nostalgia. No chance of something from something from 2005 doing that for most of us. I also wonder if their long hiatus caused their "sound" to change, as they were of course older by then. Sorta like seeing someone you haven't seen for a while and noticing they've put on weight while someone who sees them every day might not notice.

Lonesome Tonight - Their best B side? Pisses all over the A side anyway.

Sooner Than You Think - Underrated all-time classic

Way of Life - A bit throwaway but always liked the chorus.

Ruined In A Day - Too 'slow' to be a single but a great chilled out number.

Everyone Everywhere - Just a great pop song with addictive guitar parts.

Sabotage - Why wasn't this on Get Ready? And Slow Jam/RTS were? :skeptic:

Such A Good Thing - Boring football lyrics but Hooky's bass makes up for it.

Liar. Beautifully cynical and catchy as hell. Could do with a bridge and a stronger vocal, but I love it.

S-P-O-O-K-Y!!!

I couldn't believe that the band has yet to play it live, even though they released it as a single. I think its their only single that they haven't played in any gig. I feel that they don't consider this as their better tracks. For me, its one of my all time favorites. Even Paul Van Dyk mixed the song when he was just staring.

Runner up is DON'T DO IT, the B-side of Fine Time. That track performed better than its A-side, at least, I can say from my point of view here in the Philippines, when Don't Do It burned the dancefloor more than Fine Time during that time (1989 to early 90s) here.

...don't...put your finger...on the button...

Indeed!
