life goes on! Category: Life

well here we go again another action packed week.

i suppose it was the interview with clint boon that started it all off hed asked me for a few words on perry farrells satellite party single dogstar [which he thought was great] so i went on and lo and behold mentioned the N>O> split so i suppose because it was me sayin it it was out at last. im relieved really hated carryin on as normal with an awful secret so lets move on shall we? played the openin of rios in leeds on friday great crowd and considerin theyd been through 5 local bands already had an amazin resilience/ some kid came up and gave me a hug and said "sorry to hear about new order hooky" i was really touched its like your budgie dyin! great drive back [dont tell the rozzers] 47mins beat that!

up nice and early friday thanks to my daughters friends whod had a sleepover om friday too. im convinced there all tryin to do me in? nice day and then off to belfast the empire was a great venue but it was really quiet me or them? you tell me! but i enjoyed it and from what i could tell so did they. thanks to both promoters for two top nites your too good to me!

MONDAY BROUGHT ME BACK TO PARR ST IN LIVERPOOL for my session with the complete stone roses really sad the way parr street has gone down man there are no studios in the north of england yet weve got all the bands! the hotel owners were clearin out the other rooms throwin loads of stuff away in the skip and me roger and andrea[engineer thanks love ] were takin it all out.! shame! i was in good company as the boys had been giggin and were a bit blurry eyed but it went well sounds good so thanks lads magoo nelly scotty and andy the lambs were as mad as usual!

Im home now gettin ready for brazil so here we go! if anyone sees mani can they ask him if hes done his wish list for his japanese madchester cd? cos i cant get hold of him. come to that does anyone know where andy rourke is? im sure hes in brazil too. am djin at cannes at a beach party before the premiere of control so thatll be interestin everyone ll be pissed and pissin all through the film thatll drive me mad! were all goin team handed so will be a little strange! were in different hotels tho so probably for the best eh?

demo corner/............ from japan OZWANI liked it but thought it needed to hav somethin else to make it more distinctiv ........vocal work ? did sound a bit like a lot of other things.

freebass on track met the singing candidate gonna try a couple of traks with him next week fingers crosses. so there you go..one last thing as a parent ive had my heartt broken this week so pray for madeline too please. be careful out there hookyx

I am saddened to hear about New Order I guess they just can't work together:( I will be left with the happy memories of Peter Hook now and back in 1993 at the concert at Canada's Wonderland I am starting to feel teary :cry: :cry: For sure Hookster will be remembered with his leather jacket and leather trousers not to mention his dark shades :shades: Hookster that dj gig in Jan. I will always treasure that night forever:) and for his deejaying he will always be classed as a dancing teddy bear. I do wish New Order all the best and will not be forgotten and they never was forgotten through all these years..

I am shocked, but didn't surprise me at all. :eek3: Love you lots Hookster and hey I won't forget the bass and how low.

Even though they're "broken up," I wouldn't completely rule out one last gig at some point, especially once the hulaballoo surrounding Control starts up this fall. Would be perfectly feasible for them to do one last show for the hometown crowd (or elsewhere for that matter).

Very very sad. It does feel very final this time. And the horrible thing about it is that there was obviously some agreement that nothing would be said ("terrible secret") which, inadvertently, seems to have come out on a national radio show! One imagines Mr.Sumner wont be overly happy, what with the book coming out shortly (quick re-draft and some additional dirt digging by the author here we come.........).

Anyway, I knew this (the thing below) was out there in the ether somewhere and have just found it now on google. I remember writing this and thinking at the time how it captured exactly how I felt that night. Reading it now makes me verysad indeed. Seems like a lifetime ago now.

New Order Manchester Apollo 1998

First some background. I am 28 years old now. NewOrder provided the soundtrack to my first true love back in the Summer of 1987. The combination of the pure untainted love that you feel at the age of 17, and the discovery of a band that translated those feelings into music and words ("and I've never met anyone quite like you before...") was one that would change me for ever.

But then you get older. Relationships falter, you become more cynical, and music doesn't touch you in quite the same way anymore. You remember those feelings and think that you wont feel them quite as strongly ever again.

Last night changed all that. From the moment the opening chords to "Regret" were struck, to the emotional and sublime finale of "In a Lonely Place" I felt like I was 17 again. I actually nearly cried during "Temptation", it was just so perfect. I remember reading a description of NewOrder songs as symphonies, well if Mozart had written "Temptation" it would have been his greatest work.

I think what made last night so special (I would go so far as to say it was the best gig I've ever been to, stealing that title from Morrissey at Wolverhampton in '88) was that the band were obviously enjoying playing more than EVER before. A good measure of how much Barney is enjoying himself is how much he yelps. I gave up counting after about 5 during "Regret" alone. Hooky was pacing the stage, wrestling with his Bass, and posing like never before.

I was on a permenant high all night, goosepimples, shivers down the spine, the works. They even played "Paradise", one of my all time favourite album tracks. And "Isolation", my god, for an 18 year old song it sounded as cutting edge as anything else out in 1998.

One of my friends commented that there is nobody else quite like NewOrder, that even after 5 years away they are still as beautiful, dark, poignant, exhilarating, dangerous, and uplifting as ever. Long live NewOrder.

Hopefully they'll still release all those *extra* songs from Sirens. If they split, well I guess that's life, but to egg fans on with a promise of an album, with supposed music already recorded, and not to release it......well that just blows. :cry:

where did u read they will release the extras songs from Sirens ? I do wish u're right. But... No more NO Live set is a great lack for me - even if i supposed it would happen some day...

'COME ON!!' is the cheer to urge you on, as you scream for dear life in total joy, and it dawns on you, very quickly, that life, however short it is, goes on. for as the music dies down, the cheers rise one last time, the tears of some begin to fall, and the lights begin to dim, the final song is played, the last glorious opus...

It is time for the final masterpiece.

The band ends their amazing run, the fans, while sad because their time is over, rejoice because their time happened. The fans have the music, the memories, and nothing can take that away from them. Happiness will give sway occassionally to the tears that sometimes fall, but the tears will give way to laughter, and all will be well again.

The fans know this, and in knowing this they move on. Just like the band, they move on.

It is time for the final curtain call.

The band, they've had their time, they've had their fun, but now their sun is setting, and a new night has begun. But for the fans, and for the band, in the midst of the cheer and shout, they realize that their memory's a light-- a light that will never go out.

It is time for the final bow.

Sad indeed. I originally thought it was all over after the Reading '93 performance (worth watching if you weren't there is Dream Attack from that gig on YouTube, "I'm out of tune, or maybe everyone's out of tune with me") and Get Ready and WFTSC were very much unexpected and have given me many hours of pleasure, Get Ready reminds me in particular of bombing down the autostrada to Turin from Chamonix after driving through the Mont Blanc tunnel in 2003, one of the most perfect days, fucking brilliant. If they could just release the rest of the WFTSC sessions I'd be very happy even, as has been suggested in a few posts on here before, it's just an online only release.

well, what can i say? at least i had the chance to see them. imagine for a moment they´d cancelled the show at last minute just like in 88.... i´m kinda sad for all those who didn´t have the chance to see them live and they had great expectations during the last tour. :nonono:

Saw these guys once (actually twice on the same tour) back at the height of Madchester in 1989. Knowing the ambivalent relationship these guys have always had, it's probably time they call it quits. If they don't want to see themselves become their own worst nightmare, aging rock stars, then they've made the right decision. Enjoy the retirement guys! You certainly deserve it!
