Man...really why...

The word "split" means probability of getting back together in the future is close to null. Why can't they just say "take a break" or something?

I waited until 2001 to finally see them live in LA and then again in 2005 at Coachella. Met the band at LAX in 2001 , then at lobby of the hotel they stayed in during 2005. My wife and I even showed Bernard our wedding bands, and in each etched the words "You used to be a stranger" and "Now that you're mine".

And now...nothing to really look forward to. This is just depressing. Really..what's going on?

Well, I'm not totally shocked, though I'd wondered if we'd get one more "go around" with a new album, limited touring, etc.

Will always appreciate and remember the band(s) and their music....and all of the times (good and bad) associated with the records and shows.

I'm not surprised, but somewhat sad about all this. I thought they were going to do small things here and there...maybe they still will? Doesn't hurt to be optimistic (or maybe it does, when you have your hopes dashed =P)

They had an awesome run though. I only wish I was born 10 years ealier so I'd have had the opportunity to see them live more. Looks like Bournemouth was my first and last NO gig...*sigh*

Well it has been a good run for 30 years. Saw them three times and they had all good shows (1983, 1986 and 1989).

Watching NewOrderStory and it is a bit depressing now. This video is 14 years old and foursome are 14 years older and turning 50. They have been playing longer together than Ian C. was alive for 23 short years.

Still think in about 3-5 years, changing economic standards (i.e. we need money because the Warner/London/Factory residuals are going or gone) will bring them out again.

What is this big hairy secret that caused the breakup? Someone doing a Barney book?

I just wrote yesterday, in the other thread, that Hooky could have posted something on his MySpace blog about the split and here it is! Not exactly what I would have liked to read, but at least is quite clear and final, though nothing's said about the reasons... quite a difference from the euphoria at the heighth of the WFTSC release, from "the B sides are so good we're gonna make the next album with them next year and I must get used to the idea of playing Perfect Kiss at 60". Oh God... I'd have liked the story to have a less brutal interruption. As expected as it was, this is just a split like many bands'. With New Order, after all they've been through, I was expecting them to finish the project and then retire. All I was really expecting was what they had planned, a last album, Control promotion, 30th anniversary short tour etc. But something happened. And Bernard doesn't speak. I can't believe journalists aren't trying to contact him to hear his version of the story. At least to write "Bernard Sumner wasn't available for a comment" or something... Ah would we need Rob Gretton now!

I don't know what's more depressing... the band actually splitting or it being confirmed to us in bizarre 'txt' speak on MySpace of all places :nonono: Hardly the expected end but there you go.

It is a bit shit the management haven't made any sort of proper statement as to what's happening here. It doesn't look great when the bass player repeatedly states it's curtains and all official sources are silent. That's a pretty poor show really... even allowing for the "New Order aren't the type of band to officially announce a split" factor.

I'd love to hear what's actually at the root of the split because there's clearly no Hacienda or Factory meltdown in the vicinity this time. Musical differences? Arguments over the rider? I suppose we'll never know but Hooky does seem quite pissed off with something. The momentum they built up with Get Ready and WFTSC could've resulted in a really great 9th album but we'll probably never know now.

Personally, I've been fortunate enough to see the band live nine times since 2001 and done a shitload of record collecting since 1996... it's just a shame they couldn't have held it together for the Sirens' leftovers or one final gig in Manc.

Ah well, fantastic memories :) plus there's always the records and boots.

Unfortunately I haven't been able to check NOOL every day for news, but my guess for the reasons behind the split is Hooky and Barney had some serious problem between them on the last tour. It had been reported a couple of times Hooky hadn't reacted too well to some of Barney's behaviour on stage and vice versa, maybe they just got too old to stand each other. Steve probably had nothing to do with the split, he virtually wasn't even aware of it. What sounds wrong here is Barney's silence. By now he should have said something. I hope he'll do ASAP. Maybe he's too busy in Golden Showers? :evil4:

New Order will never end...In my world, they will always be together, playing and making great, awe-inspiring music. I have all of their long-plays and I will forever treasure the sounds recorded in those. They can rest in their laurels if they want. They are not gone forever. Not to me. Never. It's time to celebrate Joy Division and New Order; not mourn them.

BTW, all the members deserve to be knighted by the Queen, including Ian. Is there a website somewhere where we can bote for this?

Frankly, with no chance of another season of the Sopranos and Tracy Barlow off our screens for the forseeable future, the posibility of another New Order gig was all that was keeping me going.

well now you all know, don't look shocked or anything, everybody knows hooky and bernard had a fractious relationship, they didnt take such a long break in the 90s out of love for each other, truth is they were sick of the sight of each other then, living in each others pockets for year after year, it would get on anybodys nerves. cant see it getting any easier this time round (98 onwards) 2 albums and a shed load of touring, it was like an accident waiting to happen. no big secret, i think hooky thought "why do this when its not enjoyable".

It's not shit at all. Management can't say anything when it's only Hooky wanting to release 'official' 'split' stories, and the rest of the band don't.

The 8 year 'hiatus' in '93 kind of undermines this for me. Until it comes from Bernard i'll take it with a pinch of salt. No disrespect to PH, just he's the only one who anyone hears stuff off-and he's the only one who has other stuff going on.

If they wrote those 'other' WFTSC tracks, Warners will want to put them out. Have they fullfilled a contractual obligation with Singles?

Only an idiot would think there wont be another compilation, because lets be honest, for a group that seems to have so much control over their music we've been fleeced enough times.

Hopefully all this personal appearance (let's face it, that's basically what the Hookster's deejaying is) stuff will come to an end and Hooky will come to his senses. Sooner, rather than later, please.
