I'm inclined to agree with Tim on this, while all these Hooky comments don't bode well it's important to remember that both he and Bernard came out with similarly negative comments about New Order all through the '93-98 hiatus. I'd be surprised if this is absolutely the last we'll ever see of them. I doubt they'll ever be as active as they were in terms of gigging etc but surely something must survive? Probably wishful thinking on my part though.
I remember asking Hooky in a web chat in '97 whether New Order would reform and his response was "There's a snowball's chance in hell of that" then by 1998 it was all hugs and "just like going home for Christmas" 
The optimistic view would be time's a healer I suppose.

Maybe I'm cynical but look at all the attention this has generated. Headlines in the papers.
Though I think it's funny that no matter how hard he tries to assert that new order have split, nobody believes him.
I'm desolated to hear all that. I had enough waiting for the first 7 years (1994-2001), now this is finally the end, my hectic friend. :( :( :( :(

Reading enough between the lines on this website and news services and think this is a bunch of crap started by Hooky. They have alsways been stand-offish with their fans which is strange since it should humble them that people have been following them for 30 years.
Hooky is not going to make much more money doing this occasional D.J.-ing when he is an "EX-member" of New Order. The novelty will go away soon along with most money and conpensation and they cannot be getting that much money between the 4, 5, or 6 of them (Barney, Hooky, Steve and Gillian, Phil C. and the Ian Curtis estate) from Warner/Qwest/London/Factory residuals....they may have made some arrangments after Factory's collapse with the "new owners", but honestly if they sell more than 100K copies of their back catalog a year with maybe a royalty of a pound a copy is going to leave them with maybe 15-20,000 pounds a year royalties, I would be surprised. The whole 90's from Republic to Get Ready was a waste since they got out of Factory's money drain and The Hac was going away, too, and they did little other than forgetable side projects.
Yachts, air travel, fancy cars and tanks will not be fed or procured at those benefits.
I hate to be a spoil sport but in about 3-5 years, N.O. will have to start touring again and recording.
It does not make economic sense for them to stop touring and recording together. Separately they make less money and soon will be forgotten. Together, they are greater than the whole. That is their strength. When they do these disappearing side projects, they will disappear. The market will forget them and the bulk of the fans.
Their job is Warsaw/J.D./N.O....it is their thirty year career and do not see them as dinosaurs....just aging like the rest of us.

You could argue thanks to the sheer amount of interviews Hooky's mentioned the split in it's no longer realistic for the management to keep quiet or - as the Playlouder.com article bizarrely states - pass it off as Hooky's wacky side:

I suppose what I meant was that it would've been good to hear something from the management even if it was along the lines of "the band are taking time out from each other". Completely denying any sort of rift is a bit silly isn't it?
I do agree the management's hands are tied in certain areas though.

I'm not bothered by this split news. Went through it before with the 8 year 'hiatus' and well, surely there'll be other old gems to be released and maybe the one off gig for charity or something to that tune. I'd definitely like more confirmation from the rest of the band but if this is what we get, fine.
There's a thread on Fark about the breakup, with quite a few people posting that they had no idea the band was still going.....

Update: according to New Order's spokeswoman Jayne Houghton Bernard Sumner is completely unaware of a possible split adding that Hook mixes up everything again.

Their relationship is more like a marriage than a band, they fall out, they get back together, they take a break. They probably have split and believe it - but who knows it they'll get the urge to do it all again.

Where's Rob gretton when we need him, too bad he's passed on. Oh well, Tony Wilson may get them together again someday like Rob did on for 316. Too me, I dont give a fuck no more. Who cares, its done before (the split), i think they are shitting us so when the put an album out, it would generate sales, but like I say, I dont give a fuck no more. Life goes on.

As I said, I don't think they've that kind of problems anymore. You don't see all the bands of past decades reforming just to earn a living. Well, many actually do reform, even the Pixies when before it looked like senseless to even dream about it, but the most of the bands don't reform, and there aren't many former members skint under the bridge. Musicians with a career a dozen years long manage to carry on a decent life even since off the scene, I don't think that members from a legendary band with 30 years of history will ever have the problem of paying the bills. And if they really need some money, they can always do some production for some of the many bands influenced by them, that's the best way to earn money for a respected musician, since it also has virtually no cost.

The same Rob Gretton who kept them together from 89-93 and from 93-98? 
Fcuk's sake, they've only technically been gone six months! They had a longer hiatus than this from 2002-05!!
In truth though, they don't really need to put a new album out to generate sales, do they?
The release of 'Control' will probably do enough to sell their back catalogue without them having to do any work towards it!
