well i think its pretty lame that official word has come via fookin myspace. Should of played one last gig with Gillian in machester and announced the end of it.

I also was surprise to wake up this morning and see the split on the headlines of Yahoo US. I didn't think it would get that much attention.

Also, Americans stop complaining about not seeing them play. You had plenty of chances.

Any real NO fan has been put through this sort of shite too many times.

It seemed pretty obvious to me, from about 10 minutes into the opening date of the tour at Bournemouth that they were knackered and sick of each other. A date billed to be their '25th Anniversary Gig' with special guests and lots of surprises turned out to be a complete lead balloon of a gig.

The Argentinian journalist badgering them for answers in Buenos Aires pretty much drew the same conclusion from them too, at the end of a long tour. Isn't it time we just stopped asking if they are breaking up EVERY five minutes?

Let them have a couple of years off. Sounds like they need it yet again. They aint in their twenties no more. No disrespect to Jack, but Hooky is a rubbish DJ. He will snap out of it. Bernard is a moody fucker at times, especially after touring. They will snap out of it, after a couple of years.

In the mean time, you lot.. shurrup about them breaking up all the time. This seems to be a never ending cycle since 1992.

Will this mean Freebase be a for sure deal? Maybe they would continue on as "new order"" like the side projects did. When I say before life goes on, when Ian died the band didnt did with him. Yep , had some great times - Sheffield Roxy, June 87 i still regard as the best gig i caught.But how many times to some people on here want them to get back and carry on for???? Til they die it appears.They're knackered and its time to let it go FFS.

They say that all good things must come to an end... It is very sad that this has happened.

I know that relationships change and sour over time. A band is like that. Its just hard to imagine to leave the boat on the dock after so many years.

And no one can replace that.

Joy Division and New Order have been here for me for the last 20 years. This year was the worst year of my life. I lost my wife and daughter to a divorce.

I found solace to their music.

So I thought, I would like to share a couple of lines to let them know that, I thank them for their company.

I will still take them and their music on my journey of life, just like they will take all this years of memories with them.

Life will go on, but it will not be the same.

My best friend told me that break ups are new opportunities to start a new life.

They say that every new begining, comes from some other beginings end...

So, In the eternal words of Ian Curtis:

Picture me, and then you start watching....

Oh well. It was good while it lasted. I just hope: (a) hooky isn't quitting just to help someone with their exam revision and (b) bernard doesn't go and form a supergroup with one of the gallagher brothers.

well its very bad/good news...New Order were my favourite band(life even) for over 15 years..i found the last 2 albums patchy at best....im thinking that this silent split is "maybe" down to two things:

Barney "maybe" doesnt want a morrissey/marr style split up with hooky....the control movie is near and the re relealse of new order/joy division material is on the way..... a major split up with press involved may upset the apple cart...

The record company(london) have requested a low key/slow death to maximise record sales..

i personally think that "hooky" didnt want to treat the bands fans in such a slightly underhand way and spoke his mind from his position at the time...anyway

THANK YOU for over 20 years of my life filled with the most heart touching and joyous music i have ever heard....the beatles set the pace and Joy Division/New Order have picked up the batton and are now ready to pass it on....but to who?

The amazing live gigs i have seen this band play at include: the tower ballroom ,birmingham twice...i heard "love will tear us apart" live for the very first time, whilst standing behind Rob Gretton who was on the sound desk,wearing a long coat and looking like a perfect gentleman thug...lol i also made it to doncaster rotters nottingham old concert hall bradford....??? the factory outing to finsbury park...i got to the front row finally but had to leave half way through to catch my coach back home. birmingham nec i had tickets for wolverhampton in 2006 but gave them to a very happy neighbour ,as my wife had booked a 2 week holiday surprise for me at the same time as the gig...shes a morrissey fan so doesnt like new order on principle(barmy mare)

im gonna miss this great band and especially the Mighty Steve Morris for his amazing skill on the drums(he gave the heart for hooky and barney to build all their great songs) anyway sorry for rambling but a big thank you to joy division ..new order...tony wilson ...the stockholm monsters...durritti column...a certain ratio...rob gretton and finally a big hello and hug to Anik Honore.... from phil

Peter Hook, New Order's legendary bassist, has set the hearts of the band's many fans fluttering by claiming the band have split up. The only problem is that he doesn't seem to have told his record label or bandmates. In a message posted on his MySpace page, Hook claims - almost in passing - to be "relieved" that the news is out, but the alleged break-up was immediately denied by the band's press officer.

In his message entitled "Life Goes On", Hook writes (typos his): "Well here we go again another action packed week. I suppose it was the interview with Clint Boon [on Manchester's XFM] that started it all off. He'd asked me for a few words on perry farrells satellite party single dogstar (which he thought was great) so i went on and lo and behold mentioned the N>O> split so i suppose because it was me sayin it it was out at last. im relieved really hated carryin on as normal with an awful secret so lets move on shall we?" Hook's remarks were, however, denied by the band's long-standing press officer Jayne Houghton this morning, who said that any split is news to fellow band members Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris.

"As far as everyone is concerned, New Order will be going to Cannes next week, as a band, to promote the new Joy Division film [Control, a biopic based on the memoirs of Ian Curtis's wife Deborah]," she said. "This is probably just Hooky messing about. Everyone knows what he's like."

New Order formed in 1980 following the suicide of Ian Curtis and the resulting demise of Joy Division. Following on from Joy Division's gloomy, introspective sound, New Order received widespread critical acclaim for their blend of electronic and punk music. Their 1983 hit Blue Monday is frequently credited as the bestsellling 12-inch of all time. The band continued prolifically throughout the 80s, becoming the poster band for Tony Wilson's label Factory Records, and they were heavily involved with Manchester's legendary club venue the Hacienda.
